Hi thought i might as well make use of the new forums.

Only just started playing UD while my dwarves take a back seat for a while and was wondering whether a nefari dragon was worth it outside a Fire BG.

I quite like mine, though i did have two and have since taken one out in favour of K'lzik but im only playing for cp at the moment so am not sure what it's going to be like in more competetive suroundings.

Also as an aside is it worth running a pit dragon and a Gahlroon or using on or another?

Any advice is welcome

Thanks.

Most ud players tend to run all 3 even in a non fire deck its really what depends for you though.

Try differant things and go with it.

Hey Solvo. Don't stress about putting fire champs in a demon deck too much, they blend pretty well for the most part. I usually have a little fire sub-theme in my Demon Deck, Sheoul Demons, Grimlic, Fireblast.

To answer your question, Nefari Dragons are very viable in any UD deck at the competitive level. They provide flying, high hitpoints and a heavy damage flying attack for just 70 nora (9 speed, frost vuln.) They're great for mobility, and hanging back taking pop shots with Flamestrike. I almost always get my nora's worth out of them, when I run 'em.

I choose Pit Dragons over Gahlroons any day, but if you only have one of each, you might as well run them both. You usually want at least 2-3 heavy beater champs in an UD deck, champs that dish out high damage.

Other than that, you usually want 2x Demon Shields, 1 or 2 Sacrifices, 2x Deep Elf Priestess in your deck. Hard to suggest anything else without knowing what the rest of your deck looks like so far.

Good luck.

i'm running 2 x Pit Dragons in my FF UD bg but his is only because i don't have a DE Monk or Galhroon or Sheoul Demon

while i am a big fan of Pits, having both your two main beaters as 2x2 runes can cause problems on some maps (SP in particular). yes, you can get around this with DEP's but still, i would prefer to have 1 x Pit and have my second heavy melee rune be a 1x1

so, to answer you question, i would go for one of each (Pit and Galhroon)

Very expensive!? You must run yours maxed out. The Dragon is most useful for Flame Strike, which is a one-time ranged attack, and with flight he's already pretty mobile. Because of that you can easily run him at 70 nora with Flamestrike 3, 9 speed, Vuln, and hit points. 70 Nora is pretty damn efficient by UD standards, in any deck.

What he said. 79 Nora will get you 11 spd with above modifications (which is what I run, very mobile and handy for 2 attacks if you're looking for more damage, but costs 9 more Nora, so the choice is up to you. That 9 Nora could make a difference anyway).

Wait...what?

I don't understand this "Fire runes are not good in a demon deck" thing that seems to be going on recently. Nefari Dragons are almost staples, simply because of Flamestrike 3. He cannot be Beckoned, and he can't Equip Demon Shield...but that's it. Other than that, no reason not to run the 70/79 Nora version.

You can run him in the 80's, but....You would have to sandbag him, lol.

Nefari Dragons don't really suffer from not being able to be beckoned. They come to that 70 something price they are with 11 speed and can fly along with being able to strike for hefty damage from far away. Mobility is not a problem for this 2x2. In fire decks they're just that more lethal due to the uppage in damage.

Pit Dragon. I don't think anyone will ever need to defend this guy. I know I won't waste the time.

I'd like to take the time to thank myself for getting the Nefari Dragon playable. For those of you who didn't know, he was trash before.

i like the dragon alot. its a solid mid 70 to low 80 nora rune. for me though if your not going with even a partial fire theme you may just be better off with a succubus or even an imp if your searching for rune slots.

side note:
you have to really know what your doin to get your moneys worth out of a gahlroon. He is more intimidating than anything. most people just dont understand that you dont need to upgrade more than just his speed to 11 and give him a hp boost. ..... what i mean to say is by no mean do you have to get him to half hp befor you can start atacking with him. he still hits like a mac truck. if you use a nef guardian on him he actually performs well. but that is something you will ahve to practice if you want to impliment it....

for noobs..... go pit dragon all the way...... there is nothing wrong with it......there are just other options that oppen up for you when you use a gahlroon or monk thats all.

It was a little while back, nothing recent. Flamestrike used to do like 10 damage, and it counted as 0 Attack, so it normally hit for like 8 damage. It was pretty laughable. Gridlok campaigned to have it buffed for a while, and suddenly out of the blue, months and months later, Octopi did. Then there was a sweet week or two where Abyssal Fiends with Flamestrike was like the most Overpowered rune. And UD was running decks with 4+ Flamestrike champs, and we were a ranged faction for the first time ever. Then everything was righted, and we're back where we are now.
