I run my imp pretty much the same way and dont notice him being useless. Situational? Pretty much but as far as font contesting/relic sniping/suprise damage he is great for that.

Im not afraid to attack with him when he is behind a beater or two. But my bg focuses on killing champions who are weakened, with my 2x sac and one retri so considering the imp disposable probably doesnt work as well for you.Try something new to see if you play better with it experimenting cant hurt much.

There's basically two schools of thought. Cheap imp used for molesting/sniping/shrine contesting, or super imp used for ... well ... super ambushes. It's a good champ in either role, but I prefer the later lately in the face of all the ST decks running around DoW. For cheap imps, simply use them to soften up something that you're going to kill in the very same turn - preferably a key support unit or an annoying tank that you simply can't power down - the trick is to let them build to at least 8 ap so you can pull off a well established ambush. If you see an open font, go for it.

Relic sniping with the imp, not so much for me. Some maps are just too big to make this viable, but your mileage may vary.

i lovd imps, used to run 2 and win hard matches by font rushing, and had a dark pact for the IS hammer, old times :P

i like him, and there r many builds i would take the lavaflow devour first for sure instead of an imp
maybe take the flow devour and add another different build of imp, and check wich one works for you

After Grimlic's Descent, there were so many stealthed champs introduced that everyone was packing a form of stealth detection in their decks. It's much better now, but I dropped my Imp then, and I haven't looked back. Especially after the Amp nerf, his damage isn't spectacular, and he's fragile. I'd rather run another AoE for "surprise" damage. It just doesn't fit my playstyle anymore.

There are a lot of things you could put in his place, another Devourer or Fiend for Fire amp. Superiority or Maddening Echoes. Second Sac, or Retribution. Succubus for another flying champ. Altar of Volwhatever. Goblin Archer for a replacement range champ. It's up to you.

Imp.

11 speed.

13 damage (18 FF).

99 nora.

Short of AoE spam, I've gotten good a keeping him alive for a good amount of time after he de-stealths. And most people don't notice right away how much damage he's doing. And it's fun to watch KF players freak out when their Menalaus suddenly dies.

To me, Imps have become even more useful lately...I used to run two, then reduced to one, then took them out altogether. Recently, I added one in and liked it so much I just added the other one in, too.

One is just a plain 66 Nora 11 SPD +6 HP build and the other is my War Imp 81 Nora build with 11 SPD, 10 DMG and +6 HP. Both are great depending on the situation.
