So, I really want to make a Firk BG, and looks like with Psychic Blast and another new firk that might be possible. Here is one thing I want to get off my chest though, and hopefully Sok/Cheir can bring it up to the PDC sometime.
I know for tradition's sake that Octopi seems adamant that all Firks have range 1-2. This severely cuts into any viability of a themed BG though, because a battlegroup with all range 1-2 is going to lose. Even if all the firks were as good as the firk sensorate (and lets be serious here, that guy is miles ahead of the mindbreaker, spellblaster, or psy-sentry) that battlegroup would still get eaten alive by any decent ranged unit. The reckless blast on the spellblaster is ok, but you arent exactly going to focus-fire a unit with 9 damage every other turn from 6 spaces away.
So, can you try to convince anybody to release a firk with a decent range to make a themed BG viable? ....or maybe the new firk has a good range *crosses fingers*

Funny you would ask this, 12 hours before you would have access to beta.

I've been trying to think of another race in this game that lacks the ability to attack from more than 2 spaces away and I've failed. I understand trying to stay consistant... but It's a little extreme to think that mogas can pick up and throw a rock 6 spaces while firk lack the "mind power" to figure out a way to damage something that isnt within 2 spaces.
Have the firk projectile some stones with mind power if you have to. Or at least give some way to increase range.. see below
How about a spell that helps with the Firk range problem as well?
Firk Concentration
nora :45?
cooldown: 5?
"Relax your minds and impossible things become possible..."
For 1 turn all Firk champion's maximum range is increased by 2.
I'm not even sure that this is programmable, but what a surprise when stuck behind a meat shield.. or force barrier.. or trapped.. or ensnared.. all kinds of surprise attack possibilities.
themes are great... we love the firk.. but for being able to hurt people with their minds.. I think they can figure this one out..

2-3 range is even WORSE than 1-2 range in my opinion. At least 1-2 range can hit things that engage it or have righteous deflection or demon shield.
We need a firk with 3-6 range or at the very least 3-5 range.

not sure if you were referencing my spell or not.. but I totally agree.. the spell would take a Firk Sensor from 1-2, to a 1-4 upgrading the max only.(2-3 is the worst.) I agree there is no way to have a battlegroup with nothing hitting at least range 6.. would have no chance to get near ranged bg's.. lich kings alone would obliterate them.

Beasts!
Lonx!
Elementals!
Horrors!
These are just off the top of my head, I could easily be wrong. But there. :P

haha i knew they were out there.
I guess more the point I was making was that the reasoning was not there for these guys to be limited. Beasts, Lonz, Elementals, Horrors are I guess in general considered the lowest mental power around... considered meat shields or savage berserker types more than high intellect creatures. (You don't see us asking for a attack range 6 raptor do you?)
The point was just being made that the "flavor" doesn't fit to limit a race where their mental power is higher than others in that its the way they cause damage.

Oh, if only we had a firk with 3-6 range! :D
kthx.

Oh, if only we had a slightly surging firk with 3-6 range! :D
kthx.

(sorry, I couldn't resist! Don't drown me! I really like it, it's very able to offset its disability, and even with, can attack respectably at 5 range)

if you have a themed deck you don't have to have only that race i p[lay cyclops and so long as you have the majority of your champs cyclops its all good.
i still run a cannon and a hyeanid for range

you're really counting plant surge as surging? how many plants do your FS run?
Also, he's more like a range 3-4 firk, his damage at 5-6 is so pathetic its almost never worth using it at that range except against almost-dead champs. You do more damage with 1 attack (if you factor in amp) from 3 spaces away than you do with 2 attacks at 6 spaces since the dissipate reduction is from base dmg not from amp'd dmg.

Well, that's why I put 'slightly' in there. I know Mandrake is one, at the least. It has nice damage and average atk, so I figured with a surge point or two it could do reasonable damage at 5 range. But I haven't had a chance to have hands-on experience, and we already talked about it in the lobby, and I figure you've got the better idea of the two of us.
Retrospectively and objectively, it seems like more of a trolling post than I really wrote it to be.
