Everything but the names where false and fake news, yet these stories got spread on social media in the (100) of millions, creating a fake public relations picture. Wich could in theory if done in a large enough scale help tip the scale in a election. Fake news that is. Wich you yourself are clearly against. Then it is the cambridge analytica wich where also doing large scale public relations operations based on meta data from facebook, wich could also in theory help to tip the scale in a presidental election. And this is what the special council is about, and more than this. If the president wanted to pay for silence during a presidental election, lets say in example Stormy, would that be valuable information for a person going to vote? The russians are there mostly because Assad is allied to them and his replacement with a more American-oriented goverment would be bad for them. America is there because they just can't stop sticking their noses in places for the same reason they did in all those other places. and would prefer a different goverment. several European countries might be bombing Syria because Isis, however they molstly try and leave the rebels, Kurd and assad forces alone. the Netherlands for example doesn't bomb Isis in Syria because too messy (like how Turkey and Russia are shooting eachothers stuff down sometimes) and only bombs Isis in Iraq Russia needs allies because it does not have easy acces to the ocean. and it likes to have a buffer zone becase there are no large natural obstacles on its borders. so the expansion of Nato and the EU might worry them, but the US moving against Assad would be an obvious move against their interests.
