Off-Topic to be aptly renamed "Political Rants Too Verbose for Facebook"

Both "sides" in the US and EU politicized it, unfortunately. One side went right away with complete denial of facts, the other side went with fudging the numbers to support their conclusion. Both sides are based largely in wanting to tap into money.

There are of course shades in this. For example, there are many scientists studying climate change that are just in it for the science. There are many activists on both sides that simply want to have the environment and human life continue in the best manner possible for everything involved.

Yet there are those that sensationalize things in order to push through an agenda, so it becomes political. Well, that's the simple and inadequate explanation.

I could be wrong, but I think part of that is that corruption in Mexico has been (at least percieved to be) more matter-of-fact and "in the open." While in the US there are still those trying to hide behind platforms and ideologies. That isn't to say that one is more corrupt or less corrupt than the other necessarily, but rather that the PR is handled differently.

I can't tell which side is which in this statement. (Mostly because I think one does both WAY more often, but that's probably just confirmation bias.)

I even have people tell me that it doesn't actually matter whether something presented as true is true, as long as the idea behind it is correct (correct according to their worldview).

For example, there are these fake memes going around about specific people being refugees who are allegedly not - such as taking photographs of the Australian equivalent of the coast guard and saying "bodybuilders are refugees now?!" Someone posted a debunk article, and one of the comments says "I can't believe someone wasted their time debunking these and missed the entire point." then proceeds to go on a rant about how these memes might be fake, but the ideas they represent are obviously real, etc.

In other words, facts don't matter, alignment with world views do.

If I may be so bold, I think that's the point. And please don't assume I'm like the lads who consistently argue against any and all political figure within an established government, instead I'd argue that the notion of "Left" and "Right" wing politics is a, due to the shifting nature of perception upon a global and subjective scale, outdated concept that's kept alive if only for the ideological furor that one or the other can bring forwards. That is to say people too often judge both policy and person based on what they perceive it's/there position on the aforementioned "Left-Right" scale without taking account the notion that left and right are simply terms we apply to an individual for a staggeringly large amount of reasons.

For example one of the most important examples I make when exploring this argument is that Conservative party's across Europe, fairly seen as the traditionalist unto reactionary party's hoping as they did to maintain elements of the Status-Quo in an effort to promote stability, created the first instance's of National Health Services, the direct result of which can be found within the British NHS. So, in summary, a political ideology that would in today's terms be known as the "Right" gave birth to one of the longest lasting national forces within the world, the implementation of which in a much reduced fashion has been one of the key reasons as to why a decidedly untraditionally left politician has been branded a "Would-Be Socialist".
