I am fascinated by all time periods, cultures, and peoples. I have spent plenty of my own money and many 100s or 1000s or hours researching on my own.

If you want history to be taught properly and in depth, you should be FURIOUS at the Democrat politicians that have controlled the education programs of Murica for generations! AND you should be FURIOUS at the big gov Republican politicians that have gone along with all these programs. Indoctrination is their goal, NOT education. Don't blame me for the problems caused by centralized government. I would love for the lies to stop, and a true study of history to begin, but first the big government politicians and MANY of their supporters need to be thrown out with the trash. Then, and only then, is there a chance for humanity to progress and evolve. Being angry at me--a guy that gets paid nothing for stating the truth of the matrix--won't solve a daRn thing. Savvy?

Who discovered the New World then Bellagion? You? Europeans did not know about the New World until Columbus found it. Basic concepts.

No one is angry at you, and who is blaming you for anything? It's weird how personal you take these discussions. We are having an interesting discussion on a gaming forum. IN NO WAY do I think you are responsible for Colonialism?

Anyway, personally, I am more concerned about the legislators in Texas rewriting the Civil War history, as well as the pushes to have "Creationism" taught as science, but if you have specific examples of what I should be concerned about as "indoctrination" that you want share, I am open to seeing that. I am also concerned about how the US culture teaches communism and socialism is inherently bad (so much so the US would rather have a terrible voting system than to allow the theoretical possibility of a communist getting a seat in government), and the military worship/industrial complex that is prevalent in US society.

Incidentally, in Canada, learning history gives you a very different view of the US as well. For example, in the US you aren't taught about how the US basically used military force to take over parts of North Dakota for the mines and forced their way into fisheries in Eastern Canada, devastating the local economy for generations. And in the US, the Alaska Panhandle business is normally taught as a "border dispute" (if it's taught at all) when Canadians learn it as that the US didn't care about it until the Gold Rush and then suddenly the US decided that the area was their's all along.

As far as Europeans, the Vikings were here before Columbus.

Leif Eriksson, Magellan, and Amerigo Vespucci all knew that the Americas existed before Columbus. And even that is ignoring the fact that millions lived here before Europeans knew the land existed, so "discovering" them doesn't make sense.

I think it's interesting that the Prime Directive wasn't intended to be a central theme to the Star Trek universe, but ends up being played out over and over again. It really speaks to how this issue where cultures are at different stages of development and power is a problematic one. And we are going to see it play out again if there are, indeed, aliens.

At the end of the day tho, I think we'd rather be on the subjugation end than the subjugated end of the sick, so that's saying something too.

Cool beans. Why did Columbus win out over all those other peeps? I wonder if his arrival was momentous. Here is a brutally honest little link:

Please continue to share opinions and such.

    Edit:

I obviously disagree with some of the whining conclusions reached by the author, but still a VERY good read.

Like many things in life, it's not about what you do, how hard you worked, or even if you knew what you were doing. Being at the right place and the right time gets you all the nuts.

This doesn't mean there isn't a benefit to hard work and putting yourself out there, but timing plays a large role in our lives more than some people would like to admit.

Too much external locus of control for my liking. I agree that timing matters. I agree the world is NOT fair. But choosing to focus on those realities, instead of trying to win, is unhelpful.

I don't see any discord between the opinions I am expressing and the article you have linked. I agree with most of what the writer says, especially this part in his conclusion: "We shouldn’t celebrate it. But if we want to comprehend the world — and we should, since our lives depend on it — we have to understand it."

This is my position. It should not be a celebratory holiday, and the history should be examined closely.

You're right, it's easier to believe that America is supreme and everything related to it cannot be touched.

You and newsbuff should start a club for dreamers.

And at least one of them probably claims to be a christian, too. A fine christian, supporting genocide, slavery, **** and every other crime commited in the wake of his glorious colonialism. Sometimes ...

I wouldn't say I am advocating for not trying to win. Clearly, you cannot have the right timing if you aren't even out there. But doing the right thing isn't 100% correlated with success.

And pretending that the reality doesn't exist is unhelpful. For me, recognizing the true components for my failures and success is vitally important, and I think more people should be aware of it. Might also help with depression and lack of motivation.

Then again, my wife is always telling me I am weird and don't function like other people, so maybe this doesn't apply to others as much :)

Sooner or later Old World and New World were going to collide. And given what we know of history, New World was gonna lose each and every time. That is not your fault. It is not my fault. Nobody alive today is guilty of what happened hundreds of years ago. Disease appears to have been the overwhelming factor. Obviously the militarily superior European conquests did not help matters for the New World peeps. Survival of the fittest is still EXACTLY how things play out today, just more nuanced in the West. Matrix still reigns supreme.

If the shoe had been on the other foot, it can be stated with certainty that the militarily weaker Europeans would have been enslaved by New World. Why? Because that is the history of our species for many thousands upon thousands of years. I don't like it. I don't want that to be our future. But it IS how the world works. Lo siento mucho.

I linked that article because the author had many good points. Reality is a beach. Savvy?

Why has nobody called out the bullshit that apparently the "Middle" East was unenlightened compared to it's European counterparts?
***** please, most of the earliest expanded notions of theology, philosophy, science, astrology and mathematics can be found in the Arabic unto Islamic cultural writings, took off right where the Greeks left off and kept trucking on.

Subjective, of course, but he strikes me as a man that wonders why kumbaya and marshmallows don't dominate humanity. Again, just my impression.
