"The goblin kings force their underlings to mold great labyrinths in the Underdepths, and then they war amongst each-other for feeble resources. It is said they often kidnap the young of other clans in order to bolster their numbers.

The denizens of Underdepths do need few incentives to happily resort to the most brutal violence. In truth, saying that there will be a brutal combat usually is enough to have very motivated troops.
