I think we can all agree that pox can be a bit daunting when it comes to new players, general gamers as well as tbs players. with pox entering the ps4 scene and opening up to a potentially new audience, I fear little will change, sure, we'll get rise in population for a while, like a new exp,, but once the hoopla is over ,pop soon goes back down shortly after.. many members post ideas for helping pop ,,which I always enjoy reading,, so heres mine,, its not new but maybe the reasoning will be. Free drafts. (putting aside the fact that I think there hellafun), -let alone playing the game,, with all the runes pox has available, bg building can be a bit overwhelming , specialy to new players. even if one had access to every card,, still a challenge, maybe more so. in a draft its maybe a little less stressful. instead we can just have a PLAY NOW button In a free draft players can pick up and play ,,and get more familiar as they play,, ai is not fun for long, and training decks..meh. -vets may receive more of a challenge since the cards they get are semi random.. and are in a "play what u got situation. ". -a player can own zero cards and still enjoy an afternoon of poxing.. etc. maybe rotating in blocks of expansions or whatever. old school, new exp etc. going off every hour? and pay drafts weekends? in todays fast paced, ADD market, (lookn at ps4) im thinking a pick up and play type mode is what pox needs. maybe. im sure, especially the vets, above all , including new art, graphics , mechanics etc want nothing more then a plethora of new meat. Cuz im tired of being bait myself . of course rank pvp would be the focus and the best prizes won there.. I would like to see more things goin on , more options when logging on to play pox. are players in favor of drafts?
Definitely in favour of the idea. Great one ! Maybe also get a "quick match" for un-ranked pvp games instead of creating a game and waiting ?
That's definitely true, players will end up with circus decks. I joined a draft once when I started pox, aside paying to get my **** handed to me round 1,(hence the free draft), I did enjoy the change...the point of this is mostly fast play and fun..not pox rules or lore... 1v1,2v2,1vAi,, is all we have , game just seems so linear , no custom games or anything,, with so many runes , its a waste to be challenged to build only 1 bg for 1 game mode. we dont even have highlander mode. I think some gamers arent worried about wanting to be BM ,but simply fancy playing there runes in different ways, so it might get a bit boring.. still, I dont think custom will be happening, thats why the draft might be ok,, again,,the mission is not pox rules, or lore, but get players up and playing faster without assembling a fully competive bg,, or a new player who might understand quickly but not want to invest time gathering cards,, boom play now potential prizes might be single packs,, good for new players to get cards or shard,, and active players will at least have some shard value,, yet not enough value for potential alt and stuff. . better then sitting in lobby. sitting at a table , waiting to pick your next card,, cmon . thats fun
Great idea. If i understand correct you will have just a "play" option and you will get a random set of runes of a random faction (or split) to play with ? (or a random premade bg)
well not exactly,, as yobanchi pointed out , lots of faction in one deck some players dont like,, but again its fun! lol heres how a draft works for those unsure , if we were paying, which was a feature in pox: 4 players join a game buying 3 packs each, then the cards are layed out , the 1st player chooses whatever card he likes, then the 2nd player choose, until all the players have 30 cards, (I forget layout and turn order, but thats the jist),, then like a tourney mode until 1 player goes 2-0,, normally when paying you would keep cards,, that gets expensive. so then ,small prize handed out ,cards disappear, and play again..thats what I mean by free draft..and thats it. im just considering the casual (ps4)player who might not fully wanna invest time,, but still play,, and again, players not interested in rising in rank,, I can go back to mtg after 3 months and my decks will be as I left em,, in pox , your out of the loop, nerfs ,buffs, fixes, all your bg are ruined. ..pox is alot of work,, again we need a truly casual play now mode, and having players going in with unfamiliar bgs can be a blast. note to warhead,, even the idea of getting random cards of a fac u choose or things like that , they way u mentioned, is a similiar idea as well,, its the randomness that makes it fun.
Drafting was absolutely one of my favorite parts of Pox. Weekend draft tournaments gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. I understand there was some issue with it being considered gambling in some states? Even if there was no reward outside of gold or just as practice situation I would still love to play. Would that alleviate the legal mumbo jumbo?
since the drafts would be free, no ante, it would be fine, the cards would be used during those 2 games and then dissappear when done,,,, and dog could give away whatever prize they want,, like tourney mode was free and they where giving leg and exo out like free cheese. . I recommend the thrill of opening a pack as reward. but yeah like practice play,, thats all,, no stress, just jump in and play.
dam,,I have some tix too,, not nowhere near a 100...its messed up,, like having casino chips from a casino that closed down. hopefully sok will find a way to honor em..
Drafts are planned to come back at some form in the future. It's unlikely to come back in the exact same form as before, but there are plans for something. That said, it's not high on the priority list at the moment.
If we are able to determine some kind of value for tickets, probably. No promises though. I know during the SOE days they were giving away tons of tickets as compensation for failed events pretty much every single launch. I know some people who ended up with hundreds of tickets without ever buying any. Most likely we'd end up converting it to Gold or Shards and using one of those two instead. But this is all fairly details level stuff that hasn't even been discussed.
well , its nice to see its "in the cards" for the future.. I would hope theres a free version as well as a pay,, it can get expansive fast,, thats no fun. turning off players curious about pox. playing such a random bg can also take some of the sting from a loss "well, those were the cards they gave me" just attempting to stream line the game, an "arcade mode" if you will,, perfect fit for ps4.
For whatever reason, drafts were almost always broken with a new expansion during the last few releases at SOE... and there was apparently no way to determine WHO was legitimately affected, so they just compensated everyone.
I've never been one to implore in this ridiculous history of pox, but it might really be worth the effort. The success with single player and its ability to attract new players to a different flavor of pox should be getting you Owls' attention.
I think he's embellishing it a bit but there was usually flaws around drafts at each release like he stated, but it was usually people would win or place second and not receive prizes so they got given the entry number of tickets plus a few as compensation, so yeah I doubt there's people with 'hundreds who never bought any' and tickets were always extremely valuable I won a lot of drafts so always had tonnes of spares, I would often trade 9 for top exos/legs/Lims so they were relatively scare on the market as well.
Could you somehow keep the draft system separate and only update it incrementally when you are sure that it will be stable with new content?
