If they remove a statue, they are still very far from eliminating anything from any book. The assumption that the removal of statues is close to rewriting history books sounds like utter nonsense to me.
The way I see it is this: Those statues represent a mindset that is not tolerable. People want them removed. End of story.

anti protesters showed up armed for a fight
they got a fight
president said, both sides were looking for a fight
opportunists take advantage of that to accuse trump of racism.

their logic is that you should condemn the racists and not make a moral equivalence between the two groups.

ok. if I go up and shoot a racist in the head for walking down the street should I be arrested?

that's the kind of logic that is being used right now. its flawed. but the people who live and die by PC rules feel like its safe to take cheap shots.

as to the statue thing, I think its wrong to try to erase history. but you don't have to display your history on public property either. I think there is a good reason to remove those statues from public spaces and move them to a museum about the civil war (or whatever). but that doesn't give a mob the right to tear them down.

as to the comments about the moderation. I still see a personal attack on super that hasn't been removed.
