NOTE: We don't really have something which works like a reliable source for this whole "lore" concept. And since rune development is up to the Greens, it's unlikely that said lore is followed to a tee...which should be obvious by now. Again, the following have been gathered from rune flavour text, and the few story excerpts avialable at the main page written by Commissar.

The porpoise of this thread is to serve as a source material to inspire rune creation, as well as keeping abbilities and stats consistent with the idea of
    Faction Flavour

    The Underdepths
Sheoul is the name of a land below the surface of Poxanthuru where demons are said to spawn from. Sheoul's divided in several regions, the most influential of them are Upper Sheoul, Lower Sheoul, and the Vothsair Spires, The Mouth in Forglar, and a lava river in Lower Sheoul.

Upper Sheoul is supposedly where the demon royalty and nobility lead the demon businesses. Maxxarek lives here. Lower Sheoul is supposedly to be a region lower into below the surface where mostly demonic horrors comes from. Mountain Belkarion where the Vothsair spires and demons are located, and it is of importance to Grimlic. He also lives there, most of time. The Mouth of Sheoul the entrance to the Upper Sheoul, or the exit to the surface...depends on who you ask. Scorched Dorf lives here.

The River in Lower Sheoul is said to be the residence of a yet-unknown figure known as the Ferryman Votaev. Little is known about this river made of lava, except fire demons might spawn from here.

Other less important areas are the Horns of Sheoul which has volvanoes, and the Breath of Sheoul which is said to be a burned down forest where the air is thich with ashes, and mobility and visibility are difficult. It's also implied by K'thir prisioners that there exists a Mouth in Forglar beside the one adyacent to K'thir.

    Culture of the Underdepths
The general culture of the Underdepths is heavily influenced by the sadistic and tyrannical costumes of the demon nobility. It's is heavily implied that slavery is widely regarded as acceptable. Proof of this is the origin of the Deep Elves, which got slaved by demons when they got captured centuries ago. As a matter of fact, loyalty is by far the most valuable feat, only surpassed by martial might, and control over other lifeforms.

Traition is punished by death. Masochism also seems like a very widespread costume around Deep Elf communities, however, it's implied demons enjoy other mundane pleassures such as riches, and luxuries.

Their society is separated into slaves and masters. With the former living miserably, compared to the later. Anger, and lack of self-control seems to be regarded as acceptable, even priced, and it is encouraged by their non-war activities.

It's strongly implied that demons worship the image of Erimallion, a mutant-like demon which is praised as the cruelest of warriors. Its followers are said to be granted brutal strenght, and be infused with a maniacal rage.

    Species of the Underdepths
Sheoul Kind: They are tall, red-skinned and horned humanoids. The are regarded as the dominant species. They generally excel at melee warfare, although, some demons might lean towards other kinds of magic. Maxxarek is, indeed, a Sheoul Demon.

Bok: Bok are an all-female, winged humanoids. It's implied they are generally taller than Deep Elves at least. Their role is to enforce the orders of the demon nobility. They enforce control over Deep Elves, keeping them in check. They are depicted as reckless, and bloodthisty creatures. Korona says "Hi!",

Deep Elves: Descendants to the elven kind who got captured by demons centuries ago. Unlike their outside brethen counterparts, they all have white hair, and purple skin. Females seem to be the dominant gender amongst Deep Elves. They are slaves to other demons and is suggested they struggle for power. Grimlic's comes to mind.

Goblins: A...uh humanoid species of small...uh, goblin-like creatures...They are small, stupid, and probably lower in the foodchain than Deep Elves. Despite their small size, and poor combat prowess, they tend to be sneaky and like to cause mayhem. For teh lulz.

Imps: They come in a miriad of shapes and sizes, but they generally are small, winged creatures which DO love to cause trouble. Their intelligence levels varies depending on their role. They are favoured familiars to Bok and Deep Elves.

Minotaurs: A relatively young species of transdimensional origin which lack the Demon blood. Bull-like creatures of great size and might. They have their own nobility, but they still fight for power against other demon nobility. They tend to be arrogant and very proud of themselves. Malandur just snorted loudly.

Spiders: predominantly spiders with a miriad of particular skills, shapes, and sizes. Some have demon blood in them. They are mostly wild life which struggles for survival instead of politics and influence over other demons. K'lzik wanted to said something, but I ran as fas as I could before I became tonights dinner.

Lower Sheoul kind: Denizen creatures of Lower Shoul characterized by being the strongest amongst demon kin. They are feared by both other demons, and outsiders. They are mostly brute, excessive creatures. The Bleeders and Thirsters burped loudly.

Fire Kind: Mostly inhabitants of Lower Sheoul born from fire. They tend to have adapted to endure and receive sustain from fire. They vary in shape, size, and skill, but they all have in common to be made of fire. They often are elemental creatures, though some can have demon, or arthropod blood in them.

Dragons: Large, reptile like creatures with an affinity for fire and physical might. Unlike the outside dragon kind, they are mostly demonic entities which are used as mount by other demons. They are pretty much wild life tamed and trained for war.

    Combat Doctrine of the Underdepths
Due to their place of origin being close spaces for the most part, demons have developed an affinity for close-up combat. They are implied to also have evolved to endure a harsh environment, such as it hot temperatures, and barren subterranean wastelands. For the most part, it means that most demons are proficient at melee combat. And that they freaking suck at throwing things...

It's implied that demons spread corruption like a desease turning other species into bloodthisty savages. It's also a fact that demons have a myriad of ways to use the lives of their underlings, as it's a common feat to see them make sacrifices, or simply harming things for fun.

It's also implied that demons will play tricks on their enemies in order to achieve victory. Regardless, demons are well known for their reckless and suicidal tendencies, as well as short temper. Very short temper.

Most of the demon artefacts are weapons of war and torture. And the weapons are often very effective at increasing the martial might of the wearer. It's also implied that demons excels in torture techniques.

Something demons doesn't value is each other's lives, which is shown by their poor healing abbilities, and rude remedies. However, it's a fact that most of demon magic resolves around causing as much mayhem as it is possible. Regardless of friends and foes. Mercy is simply not in a demon's vocabulary.

    Important figures of the Underdepths
Maxxarek: He's by far the most influential and important political figure of all Sheoul, and the archytech of all campaings against the outside world. He's described as a power-hungry jealous tyrant who only dreams about ruling the entire world.

Grimlic: Somehow, he's the oldest of elves who screwed up his followers by sending them to a certain death trap which ended up in eternal slavery to the demons. Also, he's a powerful wizard, hates K'thir with a burning passion, and wants to break free from the demon influence just to burn down the forest...I think somebody's mom never gave him a hug.

K'lzik: A hot Deep Elf chick sorcereress who got turned into a spider hybrid for...reasons. She's said to be the mother of all spiders, but she certainly has a strong influence over them. And pretty much is just the hive queen to these eight-legged bastards. Don't accept her invitations for dinner. Because you'll be it.

Votaev: Whatever is know from this demon is just by two shoeboxed mechanichs and runes which never got expanded. He's described as a deity which lives in a river in Lower Sheoul where he retrieves demon souls, grants them new life, and sends them back for more...So, he's pretty much our version of Serkan and Xulos.

Malandur: Bull royalty-wants to prove his worth by taking the task of exploring Maljara. Besides that, I think he's behind the minotaur insurgency...kind-of. Seriously, if we are getting more bulls, at least bother to expand their lore.

Korona: She spends her time doing girly things such playing with her pet imp, and chasing helpless prey (i.e. a captured elf) to the end of the world. She's also very good at hunting stuff. Seriously, is it that hard to expand the lore of our resident Adepta Sororitas?

    Relationship with the Surface
It's implied that Sheoul has solid alliances with the other Wrath factions, specially since they have several species which share some particular trait with them. Such traits are vampirism, unlife, dragonkin, and imps. However, it holds the closest ties with the Forsaken Wastes.

Although it's implied Maxxarek leads attacks against all Protectorate, it seems it hold a particular grudge against the Savage Tundra, and Ironfist to lesser extend. Incursions into the Forglar Swamps are not as common. Grimlic and the Nefari deep elves are responsible for most attacks to K'thir Forest.

Well the lore in Poxnora has always been...kinda...nonexistant. My favorite part of it must have been the plaque of ba'lah expansion. WHO THE HELL IS BA'LAH?!

It's like plot in a porno. It is expected to be there, but it is not important. Or at least, that's what the devs think.

There's actually lore write-ups for each expansion that helps them to make a bit of sense: https://www.poxnora.com/info/story.do

Legato I need me some PIE!

Most of this stuff seems very made up :|

Korona isn't depicted as leader of anything, she just happens to be really good at what she does, One of the elites in a group of elites. She's not a part of the Hekatian Order.

Bok are essentially the law enforcers of Sheoul. Maxx decides something, they make it happen, they make sure the denizens of Sheoul fall in line within Maxx' directions.
They are the main things that keep Deep Elves 'trapped'

They aren't the strongest, The Vothsairs feature much greater fortitude, but are complete brutes in comparison; rendering Boks the Go-To for most jobs. You can think of them as Demonic Angels in their tasks. The lower demons in the deepest parts of the depths are all described to be stronger and feared and largely something we haven't explored, save for Greater Pitspawn, Thirster, and Bleeder.

    @Sokolov elaborate on this pl0x.

Bluefinish pretty much explained the issue there is with Poxnora's lore in a single line. Again, most of it is taken from flavour text. So, it's very likely it get written on the way.

I deduced some parts from artworks. For example, most Deep Elves artwork in existance are females. So are female DE's stronger than their male counterpart. The locations were taken from the interactive Map SOE did for the game. It's a matter of taking in account both artwork and flavour text.

    Corrected. Thanks for the aid.

Corrected, and Expanded. Thanks for the aid.

Corrected, and expanded. Thanks for reminding me Lower Beast of Sheoul exists.

Yes, please elaborate on this pl0x.

Female Deep Elves do seem to take from the D&D Drow being a matriarchal society. (Also with the spiders).
    Their coloration, too.

By the way, does anybody have a link to that interactive map?

There's a thread where Cortices said they disabled it to make some changes. So I'm not sure if this is the current one, or the old version.

EDIT: It seems like I missed a couple of things. I'll be updating the OP later.

It isn't very sad concerning nearly every single player is in the same boat as you....no wait, that makes it even more sad...
Pox, please shed some light into the lore of this game! It looks like it has potential. That short story segment i was linked to, while apreciated, really didn't answer any questions whatsoever. I STILL DON'T KNOW WHO BA'LAH IS!? I'm serious, it is so jarring to me. Why name an expansion after i guy nobody knows and then not even bother to explain it!?
