Burn vs Ice. Please discuss the debate and/or the campaigns and/or general election matchups with Repubs. Dem politicians deserve the spotlight too. And it is clear that none of the other 3 candidates can--or ever will--hold a candle to Mr. Hot or Mrs. Cold. Biden gonna enter the scrum? I have not finished watching, so cannot share my opinions yet.
It's kinda funny. The Democrat complaint about the Republican debates was that they didn't have enough substance and didn't address the serious issues. The Republican complaint about the Democrat debates was that they were boring and didn't have enough spectacle. Shows where the priorities are...
The word you are looking for is "strategery", my gamer associate. Different strategies are being employed, allegedly with the goal to becomes POTUS. "Strategy is a word. Strategery was made up by SNL writers to poke fun at George W. Bush's occasional creative pronunciations." According to chacha.com.
Oh, I totally get that. The Democrats are hoping to become POTUS by addressing important and serious issues. The Republicans are hoping to become POTUS by appealing to the Duck Dynasty, NASCAR, cheap thrills crowd. Unfortunately, with the lowest common denominator in our country being so very low, the Republican tactic has way more steam than it would in other more civilized countries.
I didn't make this, found it earlier. Axis are mislabeled tho (should be Democractic Candidates on the left and "I" mentions on the bottom).
As I said in the other thread, I don't see how Sanders has a real chance if the spotlight is ever directly on him. Being a socialist and anti-war carries too much baggage for him, I think, and there are things he has done in the past that can be used against him (due to the way Americans view certain things).
Four of those 5 are socialists IMO. Only 1 of them is actually willing to declare it to the public. And that is exactly why so many feel the Bern. I respect his honesty. Every candidate has things she/he has done that can be used against her/him, precisely because different groups of people view things differently. I agree that the lowest common denominator is too influential, but I disagree that Repubs benefit more than Dems.
I don't agree with Sanders on some things, such as Free Trade, and on the trail he largely just repeats his talking points, but one thing he does do is actually explain his positions in detail online: Of course, a large part of it is talking points and stirring up the base kind of stuff still. On this specific topic, while it is true that Social Security is currently solvent, that isn't going to continue forever. Current forecasts puts us at 2034 or so when it cannot pay all of its obligations. I call that a problem, but I do understand for some people, ~20 years is a long ways away.
I disagree here. I think Americans tend to use the term "socialist" far too loosely. Are they left of center? Yes, but by the standards of the rest of the world, the likes of Clinton and Obama are nowhere near socialist, and many would call them centrists. What HAS happened is that the Republican party has been moving to the right at an accelerated pace recently, which makes everyone on the left look more left by comparison. In any case, I guess this is a problem of definitions, if Americans use and understand the word socialist in a certain way, then you can argue that is what it means. But I do think it is not the way the rest of the world uses it.
I don't agree with the Left vs Right scale, to be honest. But using that scale, I view most countries as either anarchy or radical Left. And I view most Repubs as near the center. Here is the type of scale I find to be much more precise: Here is a 2nd, similar, perspective:
As I said, there's nothing I can really say if you define it a certain way and I define it a different way, as it just becomes a circular argument.
Ok, THIS thing is super cool: http://googletrends.github.io/iframe-scaffolder/#/view?urls=Candidates|http:%2F%2Fgoogletrends.github.io%2Fhorserace%2F1013Candidates.html,Issues|http:%2F%2Fgoogletrends.github.io%2Fhorserace%2F1013Issues.html&active=0&sharing=1&autoplay=0&loop=1&layout=narrative&theme=red&title=Democratic Party debate 1: relive the key moments&description=Search interest in candidates and issues during the first Democratic Party debate, Oct 13, 2015 Not a whole lot of actual data... but it moves and stuff! Joy Behar is feeling the Bern, and she wants another serving or three. 10-14-2015 On Wednesday’s The View, co-host Joy Behar gushed over Bernie Sanders’ performance at last night’s CNN Democratic debate and she proclaimed that the Socialist “aroused” her. The liberal ABC host gushed that Sanders was so “menschy in that moment like a real guy” when he defended Hillary Clinton from scrutiny over her e-mail scandal and insisted that she “find him to be eye candy, not ear candy, eye candy.” Behar continued to swoon over Sanders as she... said “I like an old Jewish guy who's a socialist. That's my type of guy. Everybody is talking about O'Malley and how hot he was, but to me Bernie is hot.” Not to be outdone, co-host Michelle Collins showed her affection for former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and his “rock hard man things".... http://newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/jef...-behar-declares-im-aroused-hot-bernie-sanders My goodness. Such deep thinkers. And they get to vote. SMH. Apparently the show is supposed to be entertaining. SMH again.
I find it amusing you typed stuff, strike it out, and then edit it to say more under the strikeout. I mean... just say it normally, why even bother with the strikeout?
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/trumps-explanation-for-his-popularity-good-looks-im-very-handsome/ A questioner at the Atlanta press conference asked a question that the mics didn’t catch. “What’s the secret of my popularity?” Trump repeated. “Honestly, it’s my looks.” “I’m very handsome,” he said to laughter, “That’s the only thing I can think of right now.” http://www.people.com/article/donald-trump-insults-carly-fiorina-rolling-stone "'Look at That Face! Would Anyone Vote for That?' Donald Trump Mocks Carly Fiorina" My goodness. Such a deep thinker. And he gets to run for President. SMH. Note: This is just amusing to me, I don't actually think commenting on candidates looks matters all that much one way or another, though it doesn't particularly engender me to Trump that he makes these kinds of statements about other people instead of sticking to policy and issues.
But in SERIOUS discussion, it has been shown that candidate's looks ARE a factor in how people vote in general. Finding links
It's less about women liking men or finding them hot in this case and more about if they LOOK trustworthy and competent. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/jun/17/candidate-winning-look-voters-romney-obama "The researchers found that the effect of a more competent look amounted to a vote swing of 13%. What's more, when the subjects were later asked about their reasons for voting as they did, they denied having taken the candidates' appearance into account. ... They were strikingly accurate: the candidate voted as more competent-looking went on to win in 69% of the gubernatorial races and 72% of the Senate races."
I did NOT strike anything out, for some reason it copied over like that. Since that has never happened to me, I did not know how to fix it immediately. Would be nice to get the benefit of the doubt...
