electing the first minority president made both the republicans and democrats more extreme parties. it's crazy that they are seriously considering having sanders(left wing socialist), cruz(right wing crazy), or trump(reality tv star/billionaire...) nominated as their candidate to run for president.
America is a very divided country politically.(and in many other ways)

america is only going to become more divided if any of these candidates are nominated.

when your elected president of the united states of america, yes. his race has played the biggest role in the backlash he's received from his political opposition, more so than anything else.(altho there are obviously other factors)

you have to realize that this is the same country that had jim crow and segregation 50 years ago, this is the same country where rodney king happened and the war on drugs.(war on the poor and minorities in reality, not drugs) the same country where minorities live in ghettos and many whites live in their own much wealthier, privileged, and better protected communities.

there is alot of division centered around race that still exist today as a result of what happened in the past. many older people in america(people who are very much involved with politics) were alive 50 years ago when alot of this stuff was happening.

    MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) -

It's not an earthquake, yet...But the political ground in New Hampshire is moving.

We're seeing more of Iowa's impact, and the war of words underway here.

Hillary Clinton is coming back; and Marco Rubio is coming up.

Watch 7News streaming live on mobile / desktop.

Donald Trump stays in first, with 36%; Rubio takes over second place, with 15%. Ted Cruz, now in third, has 14%. Jeb Bush, 8%; and John Kasich 7%.

Race may have been one of the primary reasons he was elected, but his politics are BY FAR the top reason he is opposed.

Then why is there still a large contingent of Republicans that believe he is a Muslim and a reasonably large sub-population who believes he is not even from the US. It is part of this whole image of illegitimacy and "otherness" that they have been building around him ever since 2008. The birth certificate paranoia was part of this. You can't reasonably claim that this was not racially motivated.

President Obama's "otherness" helps explain his pro massive gvt and anti-constitution preferences. I put plenty of white Republican politicians in that same category, but figure they just like the money and power they acquire while Obama seems much more authentic in that regard.

Muslim is not a race. Obama was raised far out of the American mainstream, but so are billions of whites and blacks and asians. If I could choose between hanging out with a black/asian/latino hawkish democrat or a white "progressive" (R or D), I would choose the hawkish democrat every time.

His pro-"massive" government preference is shared with over half of voting Americans otherwise he would not keep getting elected. So that really does not make him other. And his "anti-constitution" preferences, are shared with previous executive branches to the frustrations and breakdowns of the legislative part of government.

The reason he is seen as being Muslim is because he is black. If he was white there wouldn't be so many conspiracy-minded Republicans who seem him as a Muslim Nigerian and not a "Real American."

This isn't about your preferences and perspectives DJ, unless you happen to think he is Muslim and/or not American.

In a strongly worded editorial on Thursday, The Des Moines Register called on the Iowa Democratic Party to move quickly to prove that Monday's results are correct.

    The
piece titled “Editorial: Something smells in the Democratic Party,” starts out: “Once again the world is laughing at Iowa.”

It gets sharper from there. “What happened Monday night at the Democratic caucuses was a debacle, period. Democracy, particularly at the local party level, can be slow, messy and obscure. But the refusal to undergo scrutiny or allow for an appeal reeks of autocracy,” the DMR reads. “The Iowa Democratic Party must act quickly to assure the accuracy of the caucus results, beyond a shadow of a doubt.”

The editorial cites Clinton’s razor-thin victory as too close “not to do a complete audit of results.”

The newspaper editorial also said there were too many opportunities for error to arise.

Obama received 62,615,406 votes in 2012, while Romney received 59,142,004 votes. A small majority of voters appear to have liked Obama's big gvt politics better than Romney's big gvt politics. Elections have consequences, both good and bad.

America was founded on the ideal that limited government is best. That ideal has been severely eroded during the last 100+ years. Americans like me that discuss restoring those principles are constantly branded by the powers that be as "extreme right wing" and/or "racists" for wanting a new direction. (Never mind that Republicans bled and died by the many 10,000s of thousands to defeat the Democrat South). I look around, and I see more dysfunction and unhappiness and debt and anger and theft and violence and excuses than at any other time in my life. (I am 41). The trajectory sure seems to be incorrect/wrong/bad to me. Too many Repub politicians are big gvt types, so I see them as the top priority to defeat.

I don't care if Obama is a Muslim or an atheist or a Christian. I care about what type of persone he is, and what actions he believes will bring about the most winsauce for America and all her allies. Obama's stated goals don't match reality. Maybe things will improve soonish, but I sure as shiz aint holding my breath when it looks like the world is about to burn.

anyone on the right will tell you that, they obviously arent going to admit the truth because it makes them look bad. It's an open secret.

obama is a center left candidate, if you think he's gotten this much backlash because of his politics you're probably either in denial, just lying to yourself or others, just insane or ignorant.

the republican and republican voters(voting in far right/teaparty congressmen solely to oppose obama) have reacted to obama as if he was a far left candidate like bernie sanders(or worse), this is because of his race end of story. Obama probably would like to be a candidate like bernie sanders but he knew that it would be hard enough to get his opposition and america to accept him just off being the first non white president so has always been a center left president to minimize the backlash and panic of people uncomfortable with his presidency...

there is a reason the republican party is like 90% white.(made up statistic, the farther right you go the less minorities and women there are)

not saying the democrats are that much better overall because idk about that but what I can say is that different forms of racism(and other prejudices) are still heavily entrenched within the republican party, especially on the far right.

is center left a diffirent way to say right or is this specifically american politics?

center left means in the middle of center and left. it means the candidate is a democrat but is much more willing to work with the republican side and more accepting of their policies.

You say "center left", while Obama's actions reveal a socialist heart. At least Bernie is open, optimistic, and proud to be a socialist. Do you feel the Bern?
