Glad your toning down its ap gain. AP gain is the strongest mechanic in the game. IMO range units of range 5 or more should always be 6 speed and 3-(4+X) range. Ranged units that are 2-(4+X) range don't allow for much strategic counter play.

You need to make this thing accessible for all time. This game doesn't need runes new players can't acquire. You have to acknowledge the new player experience when releasing runes. A new player gets crushed by this rune. The new player goes to buy the rune and finds out the only way to get it was to of belonged to the game some time in the past. New player feels the game doesn't cater/care about him and is pay to win leaves the game. It is soooo easy to avoid this. Release this rune as limited as you wish to, however, reskin the exact same rune and put it in the gold store. All of us historical participants get our limited rune with our cool limited skin and the new players get a more common skin but still have access to the same perceived power of the game. SOE made this mistake and it cost them tons and tons of players. Do not make the same mistake!!!!

 

For example, I have 2x the limited elven mage and 2x the limited KF angel. If I ever use them I put them in instead of the vanilla runes and feel super cool about it. I made an effort to acquire the limited versions while already owning the vanilla runes. Do you ever hear people ***** about not being able to get the limited versions of the 2 runes I mention? No you don't. Do people try to get the limited versions for their collections? Yes they do. Its sooooooooooooooooo easy to make everyone happy in this circumstance. THIS REALLY WORKS!!!! Please please please realize that releasing limited runes and not allowing access to the rune in some form at a later date only hurts the game. Trying to re-release limited runes at a later date hurts the game because collectors feel they have lost perceived value. If you follow the example of the elven mage you get a perfect harmony between collectors and new players retaining both.

 

Not quite sure what you meant by transfer, if you are talking about accounts, after the SOE version shuts down, there will be more information about the transfer of accounts I would assume.

 

I'm slightly confused by your post. You enjoy your LE runes because they are so difficult to get. So you would want to make them more easily available so you can show off how easy they re to get them now?

I mean, I personally would love to easily get 2x+ of every card easily for my collection, but yeah, I'm getting a bit of mixed signals =P.

 

My point is that as a veteran player I've been able to collect runes and I enjoy my collection of hard to get runes. Meaning that even though the elven mage is currently easily accessible for gold I enjoy having the limited version which isn't. However, a new player can easily acquire the vanilla mage and have just as much power on the table top as I can with my limited harder to get version.

The perceived power of the deck isn't linked to wealth is the point. The wealth is in "cool points". Same thing with LOL. Skins are cool but give no additional power to the champs. LOL makes millions on reskins while keeping perceived power levels consistent.

 

Ah, I understand what you are saying now =). Hrm… historically LE remakes of some of the more common runes have not been received well, though I think that's because of the Sepia toning more than anything else.

 

You have the order wrong there I think. The LE is released first and never released again. Then the reskin gold available rune comes right after the initial release. During the LE release there should be a disclaimer that a non LE reskined version will be released at a certain date.

Look up the TF pax limited edition skin. Its typically sold for hundreds of dollars. Every new player can get vanilla TF for just playing the game.

 

For example the new rune is a LE version. After a specified time the LE version will no longer be available. New players can get a reskined version with a different base at any later date once the LE version is no longer available.

Also those Gold skinned LE releases weren't of a very high quality. It just didn't look right having a gold gilded euan running around. I have a LE euan but don't run him because he just looks odd.

 

I agree, I was never a fan of the gilded champions. I, too, don't use my goldies because they look odd in-game.

 

I maintain that giving out custom portrait artwork as LE runes is a great idea, and that the goldies look fine in their portraits. It's the modified sprites that are the problem.

 

I think the idea behind him is a clean champ (not cluttered with abilities) which is why his upgrades are all for his stats rather than new abilities. Adding everything you suggested kind of goes against what he's all about.

 

I hope the insinuation of simplifying pox does not mean I cannot make meaningful and fun interaction based battlegroups-- and that champions will just not have an entire book of abilities. I am definitely down for simplification, it is needed, but I hope it is not at the cost of too much potential gameplay, as making things like UD/FW death benefit and playing off neat interactions such as Blood of the Swamp + Nora Shield + Bogwood Mireoak + Mucker were some of my favorite things about pox; your ability to innovate with what you have.

On the topic of the Renovator, the sprite is godlike. And my fronds will now have supporting fire!

I think that many would say that harbies and doomies were not very popular overall. Doomies were especially hated.

One reason for this was that there were long periods in the game in which you had a definite advantage if you were one of the few who owned a harby, for example. And this was frustrating for those who couldn't get one.

There is also the point about the blandness, and lack of faction flavour, which comes from having an identical rune in every faction. This may be worse in this case as the art for harbies/doomies was pretty neutral whereas the owl guy might look a little out of place in UD, FW or SL.

For these reasons I think it would be better to make the rune mediocre in game, and keep it as a collectable, or bit of fun, rune rather than one which is commonly run.

 

or just make it ST only. they have Strigs so let them have their fun. this guy also could get fire attack so it would be alt dmg for the theme. making it "collectable" (and weak) wouldn't be fair and I would call it a waste of resources.
