Which brings me back. A better America or only a better corporate America?

I mean, he said he wouldn't care if Russia invaded Ukraine. It's almost better to say he'd love that than saying he doesn't care about such an event of enormous magnitude.

Apparently the rest of the world doesn't care about Russia invading the Ukraine either.

There are a lot of Americans that don't care if Russia invades Ukraine. There are many that feel the US spends far too much money on the military and would like to see Team America: World Police retire and become actual national defense, allowing NATO and other organizations to handle "police" duties.

@DJ, if you think that socialism only benefits those at the very top economically *and* that the government is run by those at the very top economically (the latter i tend to agree with), why would there not be more of a shift towards socialism? wouldn't it be in the best personal interests of the ruling class?

i can't remember if you brought that up in this thread or another one, there are a few at this point, but i do remember you saying that socialism worked only/mainly for the top of the pyramid (not in those words, obviously)

    See I understand.

But that doesn't mean you don't care about Russia invading the Ukraine. You can care without sending boots on the ground, however crazy that may seem.

I think you fail to understand how little attention people in the US pay to other countries. The lyrics of an Alan Jackson song that was written after September 11, 2001 embody how little many know. Considering we had a war with Iraq 11 years prior as well as hostages in Iran in the 1980s, those countries should be better known.

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell
You the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
    And the greatest is love

    Nailed it!!

BurnPyro keeps asserting that Trump's entire position on Mother Russia invading Ukraine is disinterest. Way false. Prove it BP. Check.

I oppose any and all massive centralized governments. Disperse the power, so that local folks have great means to focus on and solve problems in their region. Leave national defense (as one example) in the hands of the federal gvt, and as much of everything else in the hands of the cities, counties, and states. The greater the central gvts power, the less any 1 citizen or group of citizens can impact the system. For too many citizens, the real gvt is 1000 miles away or more. We don't have the time or money to get there and peacefully protest. But we could travel 100-200 miles with relative ease, and truly get in the faces of the women and men calling the shots in our neck of the woods. Right now, those politicians are not really in the loop. They have very, very little power to solve problems.

America is politically out of balance, and I am tired of 1 set of bullies or the other controlling so much from 1000s of miles away.

America has been steadily shifting towards socialism for the last 50 years, or more. It has accelerated under the last 2 presidents. The ruling class, Repub and Dem and financial scumbags and too many journalists, love this because it guarantees the status quo. They (the unholy trifecta) are in a panic right now, IMO, because Bernie and Trump and Carson are plastering the establishment politicians. We the people want flavor, while the aristocracy wants us to keep eating tapioca pudding. No fudging thanks! Savvy?

Socialism is an incentive killer. It rewards incorrect behavior. And it is used all the time to excuse theft. Again, no thanks. Humanity can do better.

Why is it our problem? Why must we initiate the care? Not saying we don't, but the happenings of the rest of the world should come second in priority to the prosperity of our own country. We'd likely "care" if we thought it was profitable, just as ALL COUNTRIES ALWAYS DO. Proof: Africa.

Also, what exactly do you want us to do? We have very little economic sway over Russia and if we put boots on the ground you'd be the same person crying about us starting WWIII 10 years from now.

You're missing the point. You're instantly thinking about "if I care I must act and stop Russia, so I don't care cause I don't feel like doing something about it".

If you don't care about such an event, I don't believe you're fit to lead a country. Whether you just issue a statement that you don't approve and blabla, send your whole army or just go drink tea with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, whatever.

But "I would simply not care if Russia invaded Ukraine" is laughable.
