I've been taking a look at Cyclops Battlefiend, and he's amazingly strong. His drawback is that he needs 6 extra damage to get going, but with the right support he's online immediately. I like using Havok's Touch, because it gives 5 of the necessary 6 damage and will pay for itself after about 5-6 attacks. Battlefiend has 6 base defense because he loses so much as time passes, but Mud Elemental's Mimic Defense don't mind. He just mimics the 6 and tanks forever. Tempest Crown for Life Siphon, Zealotry for Bounty Hunter, and he is simply a force to be reckoned with. Spot removal remains to be an issue, but all in all he's pretty cheap.
I like the sl split since I can give him mimic and regeneration. He is more tanky and you can put a bone splitter maul on him to get execute.
UD gives +2 free DMG toward Battlefiend's growth spurt, and Death Pact is a decent way to protect him from spot. Bane Shift is also a great spell for superchamps, since it cleanses over and over and over again.
