telling a suicidal person a cliché, like life is not that bad or that everything is going to be okay is usually a bad idea. ( not that I think he is suicidal but I think the same would go for other people) Life is shitty sometimes and if we take no action it might be shitty to the very end does knowing that not motivate people to take action? he has to deal with his heartbreak and his mental health/work issues. these are shitty things to deal with. and it is okay to say and know that they are. it's hard for me too, I have a similar problem. I recently fell in love and have a hard time dealing with it.
The Gerbil is right, happy platitudes don't help depressed people. I ought to know. I'm really bad at cheering people up because I constantly need cheering up myself, but we can be sad together if you want.
If you actually care if you get fired, you aren't progressing in life anyways. That's my philosophy, mostly.
