The two party system perpetuates it, but more parties would not make America any less of an oligarchy. The will of the people isn't enacted or followed in American politics. Politics hasn't meaningfully improved people's lives in ages. There's a hyper-wealthy ruling class creating the rules and exploiting its citizens for maximum profit. healthcare weed/war on drugs military spending The political system actively allows and assists the capital class in abusing its own citizens for maximum profit. No meaningful change will come from this rotten electoral system. We're one year into a global pandemic and we're still doing this healthcare thousands of dollars insurance, co-pay, in-network doctor bullshit. Insulin is still a cruel joke. No amount of suffering of American citizens will spur the political class into action.
At least dems are getting more progressives who at least trying to do the right thing without being funded by cooperations
Those progressives have no actual power. Look at AOC and you need only realize that in 3 years time she became part of the system and kissed the ring of the dem establishment. They're all running cover for Biden. None of them holds Pelosi's feet to the fire. I am yet to be shown an actual, significant improvement spearheaded by progressives that makes it past the status quo. Its a theater show that produces nothing but plays 24/7. No amount of Twitter virtue signaling can hide that AOC is an incredible disappointment, and a lesson in electoral failure for anyone who is serious about change. I took AOC as the most prominent example, but they're all the same. Pramila Jayapal as head of the progressive caucus keeps shouting about Medicare4All in media, keeps introducing bills, but refuses to put pressure on Dems or lay out a play on how they'll gather the votes needed to pass the legislation. Theather. I could see an argument for Sanders having the most balls and actually pushing for, and getting done, some of the policies he pushes for. But even Sanders dropped out against Joe and ran a pussyfoot campaign calling Biden a friend, instead of the absolute degenerate Firk he is. Dems are a bunch of ******* who enjoy their positions too much to really rock the boat.
I mean what can they really do right now they take up only 10% of the whole democratic party. On top of that they need someone who can head the party like Nina turner or Stacy Abrams. Bernie has maybe 10+ more years left by then hopefully you get atleast 50% to be progressives.
In your opinion, what do you you think the progressives could/should do to pass (progressive, assumedly) policy that would make the difference we're looking for?
Kick the Bane Shift of bad dems you know people like manchin and sinema who clearly got special interest
Take over red states make America bluer except for the large ones like Texas Kentucky etc Faster repulicans are wiped out the better
Democrats have a majority now. They've had majorities in the past. What's stopping them from enacting better policies?
Mainly they need seats imagine if they had 60 vote they can do reconciliation on anything and get away with it 15$ min wage Medicare for all Making rich pay more in taxes so government can actually have money to do something Making new jobs for unemployed?
Huh, I would have thought Goldman Sachs would have been the go-to Financial firm to blame. Certainlyt hey have the more direct connections to most politicians. So... how would you do this? Force them out via a coup? Force their election laws to change to favor Democrats (well, HR1 is a thing I suppose)? Do you have any respect left for Democracy or Represantive government? Or are you now of the opinion that people are too stupid and/or evil to be able to govern themselves? Are politicians not humans as well though? Out of curiousity, do you know of any single-party government that hasn't devolved into (or started as) despotism and tyranny that abused and oppressed it's own people? Especially any Socialist or self-proclaimed Communist or "for the people" government?
I mean, the entire US electoral system certainly doesn't. The whole structure seems entirely designed to create apathetic people whose only choice is to voting for the guy they hate less and hope their vote means something this time.
