On the note of board games, I think, provided I can get a decent computer at some point (but feel free to start without me) we should all get together over the internet and play Secret Hitler. I think it'd be a real bonding moment, especially for everyone that likes to go around accusing others of being Fascists with no solid basis
I have never called anyone a fascist that I know of (in fact, I am the one that typically argues that political leaning and fascism aren't directly correlated). But glad we could bring politics into yet another thread.
But seriously, I think it'd be fun to play with you peoples (unfortunately I can't personally run Tabletop Simulator currently, so I can only play the physical version with my local friends), and might also provide some points to laugh about and ease up some of the tension in the other threads. Besides, who hasn't wanted to accuse DJ or Geressen or Ragic of being "literally Hitler" and really mean it?
the disdain runs both ways on topic: im trying to remember the name of a board game I used to own. the board was a space ship floor plan, one side was the crew and various weapons (laser pistol, fire extinguisher etc) and the other side the aliens (not the movie aliens just your cartoony green blob types). the goal is to defeat the aliens (unlikely) or get as many of the crew to the escape pod as you can. ring a bell for anyone?
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/38453/space-alert Kind of sounds like Space Alert but at same time not really.
thanks for trying but that wasn't it. this game had really low production value. no plastic pieces. the board was basically fold out paper and the pieces cardboard chits, and a few dice. I did a quick scan of Avalon hill games (man there is a boat load of those) but didn't see it. ah well, it was fun.
I have at various points owned approximately 300 different board games. I was even a reasonably well-regarded board game reviewer and had companies sending me sample copies to review and preview. I eventually got bored though due to the lack of local competition and got rid of most of my games. I just have some social games and complex 2 player games now. Sometimes I think about getting back into it, but staying out is probably for the best.
found it! https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/162/awful-green-things-outer-space looks like someone even made a cool 3d mock up of the board and added real pieces too.
Senet Monopoly Risk Chess/ checkers Mille borne (card game) Weapons and Warriors (throwback from when I was kid) are all my board games
Wow, that's cool. do you have a website or blog still up showing your reviews? When you say lack of competition, what does that mean? Where are you located? I find that playing a variety of new games and deliberately NOT studying strategy beforehand keeps my experiences challenging and fun despite skill imbalance among players.
It was on boardgamegeek. Same name. Blog was called "On Gamer's Games". It was about skill imbalance. I would win all the time, even when we played new games. It was difficult to maintain my interest in playing and other people's interest in playing me, so I switched to other games where I would be further behind.
Hearing you say that fills me with a patriotic pride and fervor, thank you. Related pics of me over the years:
oops, I thought this was a thread about board games. Turns out it's really an extension of newsbuffs Facebook page. My bad.
