presidential candidates get votes by promising different groups stuff. they would all win by 51% if they could.
I find it interesting that far lefties (socialists and communists and such) claim that the EC is bad/wrong/naughty. Meanwhile, advocates of liberty and volunteerism and frugality prefer more state power and less centralized power. Do lovers of massive gvt really believe that abolishing the EC will result in greater breadth and depth of citizen support? And now, let us turn to an interesting factoid that has popped out of Oregon. More than half of arrested anti-Trump protesters didn't vote in Oregon Kyle Iboshi, KGW 8:55 AM. PST November 15, 2016 http://www.kgw.com/news/local/more-than-half-of-arrested-anti-trump-protesters-didnt-vote/351964445
you know you can do both right? you can give both the states better representation and power but at the same time change the electoral college to make the presidential elections more streamlined. I find it interesting that you feel better representation in goverment is not a good thing. ah wait I get it, left is the enemy blah blah liars fools tyrants pills blah blah imatruefreedomfighter, have a glorious shiny day.
Thats what you get when theres no duty to vote (in belgium you have to) and then ***** about it. Idiots. Theres this great thing Noah Trevor said on the daily show about these anti-trump protestors going off the rails: "don't become the evil you are protesting" Also anyone else saw how Meghan Kelly's new book included this spicy nugget: trump offering gifts to media personas in exchange for positive coverage. Good stuff
the fact that a significant number of americans think that global warming is the most important issue of our times is reason enough why voting should NOT be a duty. sheep should never vote. they should have the right to vote, just not the obligation. you assume they will educate themselves and use their vote wisely. youre wrong.
An american just explained to me why democracy doesnt work: because people dont align with my views so Im happy they didnt vote. Good ol Ragic Never change, the world needs far right nutters to make fun off
unfortunately 'let the buyer beware' applies to science and social issues as well as used cars and f2p games
I thought we had these talks before and they were really productive Wouldnt want to go down the path again of why america is one of the only countries in the world to brush the issue off, because the big $$ from energy companies using fossil fuels has got to be used for something. Its like being far right requires you to be ignorant on the issues to be allowed into the club, ignoring scientists is a job after all. That or you just dont care and are fine with the earth undergoing big changes because Firk it why not
Its an inconvienient truth of how were gonna be forced to wait 40 years until america implodes and all ignorant right wing nutters have died so we can work on something meaningful.
So now that they understand that no one cares about their protests vs. Trump, now they are going to take it to the democrats as well. I'm loving this.
As far as I can tell, the majority of the demonstrations have been fairly peaceful, but, like police power abuse, the incidents rise to the top of the attention-sphere. And of course, political opponents latch onto the negative aspects to avoid having to actually engage with the issues at hand. And so goes politics.
I thought we had established that these guys were idiots already Like even if Trump won with 99% they woulda *****ed. The system is ****ed sure but he won fair and square (until proven otherwise). Just go ***** about the system by getting your people in congress to stop taking legal bribes and get them to actually work for you and try and pass some legislation. I had a nice long chat with my sister about Trump/Hillary. My sister is uh, a european feminist, so a very light version of the american ones, but still a clinton supporter. She didn't understand the concept of "he won but we don't like him so we gotta protest to save the world" being ******** either.
Did you explain that the majority of Americans have been against the EC for a long time and favor a popular vote and that of the last 5 elections, 2 have gone to the candidate with a lower % of the popular vote (both times the Democrats lost)? And that this was probably one of the most polarized elections ever with both candidates being extremely hated? And what the Trump camp were also threatening similar actions had Clinton won (because the only way she wins is by cheating)?
Honestly tho, as long as people are peaceful in their demonstrations, I don't really care what they are protesting - it's their right. In the case of this specific topic, I am guessing this Electoral College problem isn't going away any time soon. But to be fair most people are just protesting Trump specifically, which I wouldn't do, but again, it's their right.
