I don't know, a lot of meta bgs are really strong but UD damage is not free damage, that is their faction bonus. Owl raider cone and red/blue fist free attacks don't add much to their nora cost but give them a lot more damage.
Gravitone: Lost font defenter. Why so fast? we barely got a chance to play with it. Was a fun guy with this -Sad change Crusader: Why remove Battle Leader? Thats what made him cool for those of us with limited collections (no angels). Now hes just automatically worse then te angel.
crusaders base dmg is too low and I am not sure melee specialist is even good for its nora cost. battle leader was cool but made him really expensive and its kinda dumb on a champ with such low damage. font defender is dumb, I think they are trying to remove it from the game, it is too powerful in certain situations and leads to draw/map wins.
As far as i remember the only three champ with font defender was stalwart defender, Leoss sentinel, and the lonx. I'v seen these three champs maybe 4 times in all my pox life.
I wonder why the had it in the Gravitone which is new only to decide to remove the ability completely from the game by the midterm. Was it really that strong forcing draws like MW24 said? what were those situations? Just curious. I felt the crusader had character with battle leader - like you posted hes kind of weak in terms of power but if you overcome that he pays some dividends now hes seems like he has no real potential. Does anyone use him effectivly now? Or have an idea how to? I just like the card a lot. Maybe Im too attached! I really like the Etherial Enchantress with the extra speed now. So thats good. Seems she can do haste + 1 extra thing evey turn. Is she effective in the upper echelon decks?
Auxilium map, IS goes first, deploys gravitone with font defender. At turn 1, the battle for mid font is already lost in favor of gravitone. KF hills or whatever that map is called, same story. Edit: Any map with a middle font.
I feel like losing font defender all together is a shame, though possibly understandable given limited resources. This may seem strange since I am probably the biggest pusher for streamlining and consolidation, and generally reducing the number of abilities in the game BUT, I think this reduction in abilities should be focused on things that are low impact, or which overlap in effect with other abilities. Font defender was a strong and unique ability which certainly added a strategic dimension to the game. I can absolutely understand that it was problematic to balance, but there are ways to reintroduce it to work in a balanced way. If it was an activated ability with a high ap cost it would prevent font grabbing and mean you actually need to secure a font.
I agree with the premise, but disagree that the specific ability in question added to the strategic dimension. It either works, or it doesn't, and offers very little response or counterpart. Additionally, it is generally much stronger for Player 1 than for Player 2, which is randomly determined.
As for making it active, we already have Secure Fonts and Change of Plans that fill that particular niche, plus other abilities that trigger on entering deployment zones (or even just movement), etc.
Yeah, I agree with you if you take the ability as it is now, but think it becoming an activated one (at 5 AP or something high) would solve a lot of that issue and leave it something which adds another dimension to the game. I take your point that there is secure fonts and change of plans out there, but I think there is a big enough difference to how they function that it justifies font defender existing. Add to that the other two abilities are pretty rare. Anyway, reworking it is an option for the future I guess.
