If an American born prostitute of Asian decent dresses up in a Sailor Moon outfit does that count as cultural appropriation?
putting all the other things aside, pretty sure "asian descent" means no one's gonna give much of a Firk probably they'd care more about the "prostitute" bit, but that's not got a uniform response
same it's just a word that means disrespecting a culture by dressing or using their stereotypes IMO. which you can do through misrepresentation. and some people get offended at nothing.
Translate that to ideas If I lived for 25 years following a certain idea of tradition and someone comes along with a better approach or a better idea why stick to the old way of doing things? If the culture supports a good idea or has a good foundation then people shouldn't be afraid to embrace different cultures ( because they are confident its better than others) but should encourage it so they get more exposure to different ideas and beliefs That applies to cultures , religions etc etc.
in a way, the concept of cultural appropriation is itself racist. some food for thought. http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article153143034.html
cultural appropriation is something to keep in mind, i think, but people too often conflate it with a natural sharing or blending of cultures. it annoys me how many people don't seem to realize how close they are to arguing for segregation
apparently the choice of headgear in the Dutch entry of the 2012 eurovision was not okay. the 2010 entry was also not okay because come on a inspired by a Dutch street organ for the intro and background ? no.
