So I am a voracious reader and am constantly looking for new books to acquire. The problem is that I vastly outpace the rate at which books can be written, as a result I am always hunting for new series or individual books to read. So I am coming to you seeking help. Tell me what to read. To make things easier I am putting below what I have already read.

In "Queue"/ Books I have but have not read. (These will be gone in a week or so):
The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastards #1)
    The Magician (Magician Trilogy #1)
The Magician King (Magician Trilogy #2)
The Magician's Land (Magician Trilogy #3)

On Deck (Books I will acquire next):
    Discworld
The Book of the New Sun - Gene Wolfe

    Finished:
The Wheel of Time #1-7 (Gave up on the series)
    Everything by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn/Stormlight/Elantris/Warbreaker/etc.)
Everything by Jim Butcher (Dresden/Cinder Spires/Codex Alera)
Everything by Patrick Rothfuss (Name of the Wind)
Everything by Brent Weeks (Night Angel/Lightbringer)
    The Dark Tower Series
Most of the books by David Gemmel
Most of Karen Miller (Fisherman's Children/etc.)
Everything by Ted Dekker (Christian Fantasy/Suspense/Horror Author)
Everything by Stephen Lawhead (Merlin/Hood/Dragon King)
    Lord of the Rings/Silmarillion/Hobbit
    Throne of Glass Series
All of Star Wars (Literally all of them. They take up more than a full shelf)
    Dune and all sequels/prequels
    Everything by Orson Scott Card
The vast majority of the classics (Asimov/Bradbury/Clarke/etc.)
    Ready Player One / Armada
    Complete collection of Sherlock Holmes
    Vast majority of Agatha Christie
Most of Tom Clancy (Jack Ryan, Net Force, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell)
Most of Robert Ludlam's Borne books
    Various John Grisham novels
    Various Brad Thor books
    All of G.A. Henty
    Horatio Hornblower Series
    Master and Commander Series

First off, love this thread. I also am a "voracious reader." One book series that I can reccomend quite highly would be the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. As well as anything John Grisham realted. Generally I stick to Fantasy, Romance, and Law.

    Graphic Novels: Sunstone

Fantasy: Sword of Truth series - Terry Goodkind.

    Fiction: Bakki's Book

Romance: Far too many to list. Tell me your tastes, and I can probably find you a book.

Young Adult: Heir Apparent, Uglies Saga by Scott Westerfeld

I'll update the list whenever I remember a book, and care to make an effort. ;)

Thus spoke Zarathustra is a must read. If you want to understand Nietzsche and not just his commenters you have to read it.

You already figured out that OSC is a master. Kudos!

    "Guns, Germs, and Steel"

    "The Giver"

"Agenda 21" (by Harriet Parke and Glenn Beck).

"Michael Vey" series is pretty good.

It's a shame the I am Number 4 movie was so bad.

My gripe with the that book series is how young they stay throughout the numerous books. I think it would've been better to spread the events over the course of years. A bunch of 14-16 year olds stopping an Alien invasion is pushing it.

Lots of overlap with the fantasy and scifi I like. You should queue up:
    - Max Gladstone
    - Joe Abercrombie
    - KJ Parker (start with "Sharps" or "The Folding Knife" standalone novels I guess)
    and possibly:
    - Anne Leckie (Ancilliary *)
    - Miles Cameron (The Traitor Son Cycle)

Markoth, what are the 5-ish books that impacted you the most?

  15. Markoth

    Markoth Lord Inquisitor

Depends on what you mean by impact. Are you asking for my favorite books, the books I think are the best or the books that have made a tangible impact upon my life?

  16. DarkJello

Would u be adverse to sharing 1-2 in each of those categories?

Favorite changes rather frequently but currently would be Aeronaut's Windlass but thats mostly the result of crossing my love of nautical history with steampunk sci-fi/fantasy. I consider Name of the Wind (and its sequel) to be the best written fantasy novels of the past few decades and wouldnt be surprised if its required reading for schools eventually. As for books that impact me daily there is really only Sun Tzu's Art of War and the Bible. That said I really enjoy well written fantasy and sci-fi because of the amount of research that goes into the books. While many people prefer to write them off as fiction I like to read them to find bits of knowledge that may be useful later on.

In this case, move KJ Parker to the top of my recommended list. Just about anything he's written, except for the sequels to "Shadow".

Tolerable, actually, gets into trouble quite a bit.

As for the other suggestions, Terry Pratchetts newer books read like train wrecks, Joe Abercrombie can't write worth Bane Shift, R. R. Martin never had anything to say to me

Of course just my taste, but if you agree you might want to check those on my list out ... Seriously, Sapkowski and Lem are utterly fantastic
