I just equipped a Frostwing Glaive with Keeneye crown. It did give him strike, but his damage was lowered by def. Instead of ignoring it.
I were. But I did the maths and his Def negated my dmg. 12 dmg vs 4 Def + 20% dmg red. I dealt 6 dmg. (12-4)*0,8=6.4
As I tested, if the unit is momentary grounded, the equipment doesn't grant Strike. Also secondary abilities make use of Strike, so it shouldn't be the problem. For any chance, do you remember if it made the effect of Strike? (red and yellow circles). By the way, if you equip it on a Levitating unit (Grant: Flying) it will still have Strike when it loses it. So it checks at the moment of equipment only, not every "action frame" like Domain: Terrain.
