Yes, they look all very suspicious to me. Except #2, that guy is always the hero.

But yeah. I dunno, I'm vaguely suspicious of #Molo because of the pre-gaming "lookitmeimmanoob" thing, but I don't really know how far to take that. I'll wait for the rest of the dudes to post I guess

My list is very similar to dagda and pede's. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL game history joke!

    Bane Shift. Sorry for edit.

#s 1-10, and number 12 are awfully mysterious.

And who is molo, and why is being new suspicious?

I may have edited because I'm on my phone and fat fingered the done/enter button

Oh, molosse. I dunno, in our last game all the noobs acted like mafia and weren't. So let's give him a chance.

No, in the last game, Bakki was a "noob" and he was definitely mafia. Can't remember about loy, whether or not he was nub.

Checking in to answer @tangmcgame. I've played a couple of mafia games (10ish, I believe) and I've never been great at playing off being scum. It's tricky business.

Why the "s? That's kinda scummy if you ask me.

We were like Charlie and Raymond, played em like a casino.

Never suspected either of them last game.

I suspected baskit (in fact, that quotes should have been enough to lynch him but tang diverted to pede) but not loy, maybe because he was pretty inactive, we gotta be sharper this time to spot that details.

    why is being new suspicious?

well, it's not necessarily. what it is, though, is either cover for a mafia player to hide behind ("look guys i really don't know what i'm doing so i'm not scum i'm just new, promise!!!1") or it's a nigh-useless townie ("look guys i really don't know what i'm doing (so i'm not scum i'm just new, promise!!!1)")

basically what it boils down to for me is assets to the town. let's say i'm a townie (i'd say i'm a townie, you guys can say what you like). all i know is that one fact. when it comes time for me to vote, do i vote for the guy that's talking a lot and helping the flow of conversation get to productive ends?
do i vote for the guy who's not saying much because he's "not around"?
do i vote for the guy who's post-spamming to make it look like he's worth the time it takes to Bane Shift another of those posts out?
do i vote for the new guy, that claims to not/doesn't manage to understand a single damn thing (bonus points if he's also inactive) ?

now, there are other categories here, but the bottom line is that the "new" guys are good early lynches in my book if they don't shape up or if someone else doesn't really put themselves out there. first lynch is pretty much always a crapshoot anyhow.

after they're gone or less relevant we move on to those that post-spammed, or lurked, or hammered hard and wrong. or, if god is good, we move to those that catch themselves in a lie (as PT can tell you all about #butthurt)

that work to explain things? you have to remember that you always need to question *why* someone is doing something. when they say they're new, don't accept it as a fact. ask yourself why they'd say it. don't jump to conclusions too fast, just keep your mind free and find the patterns as they emerge.

I mean, I've played one game and I was curious as to what closed communication was. So now I feel like asking more questions will get me killed... But damn those bandits am I right? Being all bandity and such, we should totally do something about that.

Yeah, you have to be careful around here, anything you say can and will be used against you. Of course, not saying anything will also get you in trouble, so you just have to be really careful.

Ah thank you, that is some great insight I wish I would have had last time I played. You may have saw, I got to discover the weather machine, then promptly died for my discovery. So is it generally good to just random lynch someone? Or as town should we try NOT to lynch someone first thing, as odds are high we'll get an innocent? Like say for instance we all vote Molo (for purpose of example), and hes the doctor. Wouldn't that be extremely bad until we give some opportunity to see who starts pointing fingers randomly? Like say I went off of this Dagda information, and proceed to go on a witch hunt of Molo(who's pretend doctor), and in purpose of this example, gets me to look like a baddy, thus getting two town members killed?

    Like for instance:
Firstly I don't understand what he's saying/asking Why the quotes? why the "s'es, why the Squestions? I dunno.

    Then this.
What quote exactly? Or are we talking about last game still with the aforementioned things I quoted?

Anyhow, I think the baskit and gab quotes were in reference to last game, and I'll ignore them going forward, unless otherwise pointed at them :p.

Sorry for my confusion, I am just trying to make sure I understand the context of these quotes.

ANYWHO, proceeding on, I'm scared of this Molo guy now. Thanks dag :p

Last game is pretty much always irrelevant. The quotation marks Baskit is referring to, I believe, are the ones around " "noob" ", as seen here (also, you can hit the up arrow after where it says "tangmcgame said" and it'll take you to the post i pulled from)
so bakki's basically just ****ing around with what he's saying.

so far as Molo goes in this specific case, there's nothing astoundingly solid on him at all. it's more of a gut feeling intended to stir conversation. it did so, i'm fine with moving off it (although he's certainly not moved out of the "suspicious" box).

so far as things go in your example, this is a question that gets raised often- it is better 99% of the time to lynch the first chance you get.

consider it this way: mafia is a team-based game. we have no means of doing anything without everyone communicating and probably some of that communication getting blurred by malevolent forces (the mafia. go figure). we also start with Bane Shift all for communication or shared knowledge.

so, let's say that day 1 we decide not to lynch. everyone instead just talks a lot. that means that day 1 is a wash, and night 1 we lose a town member. it's pretty much impossible to not lose that townie. day 2 rolls around, you have the same situation, about the same information (because mafia wasn't particularly pressured), and one less townie. literally no benefit.

still with me? because this is the part that i tend to lose people on.

let's say day 1 we lynch. let's say day 1 we lynch and we hit the doctor, or the cop, or some other useful role.

who the Firk cares. if they were getting themselves lynched, then either they were acting amazingly stupidly or we (the town) were getting amazingly played. if the first, they weren't going to be a big help. power or no power. if the second, we can immediately look back through the records and see who did what, who said what, to lead to that lynch going through. and so on. that information carries through.

admittedly, day 1 it's unlikely that the mafia would have figured out who the doctor or the cop or the whoever the Firk is, but if they managed to play us as a group so well then it may very well tell in the log.

the other possibility is day 1 we lynch and hit a mafia, but frankly that's really low probability and almost always complete luck (without some major mafia gambit being thrown down)

I'm really damn curious, can someone explain how asking for clarification on a rule makes me scummy? Is that a common tactic?

  19. st3ck

st3ck I need me some PIE!

Dag explained it pretty well in depth. I think it roughly falls into the category of self handicapping. But yea, Dagda made a nice long post about why calling attention to being new isn't necessarily a good idea. Makes you disposable to the town (IE not helpful), or a really weak cover to hide behind for being mafia.

Just tread carefuly, posting is a suspicious offense in this game.

it's not that it makes you "scummy", it's that it makes you marginally more scummy than everyone else (who are also, for the record, "scummy"). and that we need information and conversation to be more of a thing, so posting about someone else's posts as a way to collect thoughts is pretty valid, especially in a day phase with 96 hours in it (assuming nothing gets hammered in, anyhow). it's early times yet.

also, not posting is also suspicious. or posting too much, or too little, or too... wrong

post right, think straight, win game
