I also have this problem with the new map but I don't really care about throwing some free wins on PvP, but now it's affecting my daily missions and this hurts a lot my gold income, it's really depressing. Please, install this fail-safe mode asap. Thanks.
The new patch allows me to view the new UD map, the only thing while not a big deal is the lava does not show in any form. It appears to be regular dirt or rock terrain. For those who play on it, use the grid (press G twice) for that map to see the terrain type. Not sure if there is any other additional fix but much better than a black screen that forces you to close Pox
