Noramancers (A Fantasy)

So I am babysitting my 4 year old sister and cant focus on the game, so im going to entertain myself by writing this fantasy I've had for poxnora. Feel free to comment, but this is purely for my own entertainment and i have not even slightly considered its viability:

Premise:

So in this Fantasy, after the ingenious Owls of the Desert repurchase Poxnora, they come up with the idea of relaunching and re-branding the entire game without necessarily starting from scratch. The Owls would tell the tale that takes place three thousand years after Poxnora:

Suddenly all the Nora fonts ran dry. The art of Nora became forgotten, Heroes began to perish, and the 90 players of poxnora had nothing to do. Poxnora was their life. It is all these nerds knew. They've been there for 8 years and forgot what real life was like. That was Two Thousand years ago. Today the Art had been reestablished but in a way that has never been seen before. Nora was in the hands of players, the Noramancers. With their powers Heroes were reborn, lands were reshaped, and the Owls became rich.

Runes:

The Art of Nora has returned. Noramancers had the ability to summon ancient heros such as the Serkan, the ugly, Menalaus, the overpower, and Fiorn, the fat bear whose hibernating to escape being played. The relaunch would refocus the game. Abilities that had unnecessary ranks, while fun, gave way to a simpler more logical poxnora, where few abilities had 3 ranks. Instead abilities like Melee Specialist was an ability fixed at Melee specialist 2, and Regen was a fixed ability that regenerates 5 health and so on. This made it easier to keep up with for newer players without them having to check the tooltip of every champion. Many unnecessary abilities were simply removed. Costing began to consider combo potential which could be overpowered, especially within the runes faction. For example giving a champion ghost in a faction that can grant immunity magical (FS/FW for example) would cause it to cost a greater amount of nora. All faction bonuses will be reduced. Instead a factions play-style will be reflected more greatly in font bonuses and actual runes.

Refocus:
Leveling:
But after all this.. The game still didn't strive.. This is when the owls realized that changing runes alone wouldn't fix anything. So the Owls of the Desert had an epiphany! They would change the games focus! Player Leveling was capped at Level 30, which took a reasonable amount of time to reach. Every 10 levels the player got an Avatar! Additional Avatars had to be bought using Gold or Owl Droppings, a new currency introduced by the Owls to get rich! At level 10 the player would unlock the Draft System!

Draft/Gauntlet System:
The Draft system did not restrict people to waiting, or playing for 4 hours, instead it simply queued players against each other like any normal freakin queue system, and rewarded them based on the # of wins!
*(Now that its 2015 and im rereading this, I've realized hearthstones arena is exactly this)

To enter Draft players payed gold or Owl Droppings.

There would also be a system called The Gauntlet where large amounts of Gold would be used for a draft game, but this system required the player to be level 30, and use the classic tourney draft system (Aka it took 4 hours). The winner and runner up get a portion of the gold. The winner also gets one of the current expansions limited/recolored rune!

Tutorial Revamp (Website AND in-game Tutorial):
Website - The game would be explained through a more interesting medium. When creating an account players could choose a "Servant". The basic servants basically just look like wisps but you get to choose their color from a small set. When logged in to poxnora.com or the in-game client the wisp would appear somewhere on the screen. If the player needed assistance they can click the wisp to get some help. After creating an account the player would get to either enter a website tutorial, or skip it. If they change their mind after skipping it, they simply click on the Servant.
In-game - The tutorial was revamped with less clutter. It focused on core ideas. It first explained the idea of Nora and deployment. It then explained base stats and abilities as well as their tooltips. Next it went to AP, movement, and abilities. More complex ideas were explained in further tutorials. Things like the AP cap being your champions speed +4. Capturing and contesting fonts. Defeating the enemy shrine as well as the shrines abilities. Use of non champion runes. Lastly, controls like clicking G, N, or P. After completing each tutorial, players received 500 gold. Completing all of them would take a while, so its fair to say they should be able to afford 2 core sets at least. All of this was done by the Servant, who would also appear in Training Grounds games to assist the players if they click it.

In the client while out of game, the servant also appeared to explain chats/chat commands, lobbies and queues. The Servant can be disabled in the options menu and new "sprites" for the Servant can be purchased with Owl Droppings.

Touch-ups:
- Rank resets and map-rotations were done on a consistent basis rather than on expansions. Rewards would be given out as they are now.
- Maps would be added for 2 v 2, splits would be removed from 2 v 2 and practice matches for 2 v 2 would be re-enabled. The option queue for 2 v 2 would also be added but instead of entering a game, you would enter a chat lobby similar to custom games where you can discuss strategy before choosing to ready/start. If a player leaves, you simply need 1 more to queue up.
- Token costs would be reduced, and the option to buy single tokens would be added.
- HUD revamp to make it look more interesting and less intrusive.
- Options to /join or /leave chat would be added through typing commands or simply in the options menu. You can also turn off the flashing of chats.
- Top 5 guilds also receive a reward after rank resets, but the reward would be a free rare of your guilds main faction instead of gold. The first place guild would receive an exotic instead.

Advertising:

Bring the game to the attention to Gamers/Streamers on Youtube/Twitch. By doing so the game got insanely popular in the TCG community and Hearthstone died in a fire.

Oh and an awesome cinematic sealed the deal!

Shhh, people willl know im not creative . Yes Noramancer was a KF player and Guildy of mine. His name sparked this idea.

It so happened that very same day a pair of ruling noblemen stumbled upon this thread. Sir Gedden and Sir Hospy marvelled at the ideas put before them and instantly began rejoicing at the thoughts of getting rich. Immediatly they began implementing the changes and all elder noramancers grew to be happy and content at the new fresh faced normancers to battle and feed gold off.

 

If I wasn't a complete idiot, I'd say this isn't fan fic and is you pitching the owls an idea.

 

Shhh Jad! You guys are ruining my elaborate plan! Jk, if i was a complete idiot, i probably would pitch this idea, but in truth i completely understand that the owls dont have the resources, manpower, or time to make this true, thus a fantasy was born!

I don't get the Unique: Ability thing.
There was no explanation about what that keyword does in this case, just that it is given to runes that serve roles (which all runes should), and cannot be copied (but IIRC, only Mimic and Bestow copy abilities, and Spare Parts can only be used on constructs anyways.)

 

Not true, adaptive can steal abilities as well, as can take form. Each champion can only have 1 unique ability which helps add focus to runes as well, it is mainly for organization.

 

When did h0spy start calling the shots with gedden.

 

I would argue that Take Form doesn't steal abilities. Instead, you get the actual rune you target (with on-deploy abilities, even!)

 

Your being a little nitpicky now lol. This isn't meant to be a viable solution, just what i personally would like to see, and you just went from arguing the purpose of Unique: X into arguing whether Take Form steals abilities or grants a rune :/. Like i said, the Unique: X ability will help organize things from a design standpoint in my opinion, whether its viable or not is a whole different story lol.

 

Speaking of Take Form, it feels like it should just be removed from the game and the one champ that has it (Clay Form) be reworked into a spell a la Grimlic's Mirror.

 

Jakei soulpainter also has it. He is too expensive tho.

You realize the powercreep has gone down? I know what It had. I'll give u a scenario lets say I have 2 soul painters and I have a nohkan guide creating jakei pupils which I grant take form to then transform them both into your thirion(this wouldnt really work as the pupil isnt the same size but u get the point) and give them nohkan do.

 

I never said it was fair, it was fun tho! lol, and this is not a scenario this is exactly why it was nerfed, people were doing exactly that
