Please remove or grant access to runes that simply can't be acquired

This is a game that just happen to sell his components as if they were cards. The game comes first, and that implies balance and rune accessibility, they can't go around selling power, because then everybody would leave.
The best things that collectors can hope for are limited edition reskins, nothing else, sooner or later, everything playable will become easy to access because that's the foundation of a competitive game.

 

It should also be mentioned that the champs have different ability paths. That may or may not change in the revamp, but maybe it the more accessible Fan Faire should get a "weaker" effect?

 

I've been misquoted so many times in this thread that I don't even know how to respond any more. I will try for the super-simple approach, where I only say literal things and do not elaborate at all:


SOE focused ONLY on new players and selling with powercreeped common runes + re-releases of limited and legendary runes. It didn't work. Now every C/U/R champ has 7 weird abilities. Players were turned off. Players left. Such narrow-sighted business models never work. All players must be considered. This thread does not consider old players and collectors. It treats them like miserly dinosaurs with no regard for their contribution to the community, the game, or the cost of developing the game for free/casual players. So, I don't like this thread's premise.

Simple enough?

My TLDR:
The OP literally asks for all runes that any player has to be available to all players universally -- in what is unquestionably a hybridized collectible card game.

My responses have been and remain:
1. Don't ban or "remove" any limited runes.
2. Don't just re-release limited runes outright and call it a day.

Aside from those two routes, I don't care what Owl does with LEs.​

Malosi suggested re-releasing with new skins or different animations/sounds (for spells). I think that is a wonderful idea. I think the idea that makes the most people happy across the board is the best idea -- not the idea that transparently panders only to casual/new/F2P players.

However, the OP and many respondents in this thread are ONLY interested in what is best for new/casual players. Anything else is "too hard" or unnecessary. They are accusing collectors and veterans of being selfish and self righteous, but they would readily alienate a whole community of players who have enjoyed, financed, and supported PoxNora since it was a wee babe?

I think the misunderstanding here is that you are being, to put it lightly, pretty damn rude. You came into the discussion by being outraged and accusing people of being socialists for some weird reason. It kinda started off badly. Regardless, I am glad we are on the same page now. What people responding to you mean by "be able to obtain" is not having a value determined by collectability for a unique effect they want to use in their deck. What they want is those unique runes to be re released (either with alternate art, spell effects, whatevs) so that the collector value isn't ruined but that they can play with them. I am totally okay with a rune being in high demand because a lot of people want to use it as long as it can be opened. No one is saying everything should be given out for free, just that acquiring runes should be reasonable.

However I disagree that SOE was pandering to new players with good C/U/R.
1. The game is being dominated right now by exotics and legendaries, this was SOE's doing and it absolutely poison to new players.
2. SOE released so many leg packs, which again are poison to new players, just to cannibalize the community that was here because they knew they weren't gonna hold on this game and didn't want to spend the resources to properly maintain it.
3. Good C/U/Rs are needed at this point to counteract all of the above and get new players in, this is needed badly
4. The theme decks were pretty heavily criticized, but if decks need legendaries to be viable, then legendaries need to be available to new players. They probably could have been done better, but things like this are absolutely needed to get new players to the point where they would be comfortable spending money on this game

f2pers are often demonized as "leeches" but a veritable horde of f2pers are absolutely needed to get this game to healthy point. Look at League of Legends (a free game that I have spent an embarassing amount of money on), only a very small percentage of players actually pay anything close to what the game is worth, but the game is one of the largest in the world and it is so insanely profitable BECAUSE of the f2pers. The small minority of paying players are there because the uncountable masses of f2pers are creating content, way more content and much more quickly than any team of game devs could ever create. So yes paying players should be graciously compensated, but the game needs to be able to attract f2pers.

Edit: oh yeah, and when the non paying and paying population of the game increases, guess what happens to the value of the stuff you paid for? It's gonna skyrocket.

 

A game needs to have players in order to play with those runes.
I think everyone is in basic agreement and only arguing over their own perceptions.

LE runes people have now will stay LE.
Functional runes should be made available through any number of options be it a LEG/R/U/C re-skin or whatever.
Carrionling has a LE and a common version for example.

A small hand full of people have bog hopper zombies or haunted spirits which can be very helpful in making zombie or spirit bgs.
I have these runes and think they should be available to new players alike in one way or another.

*EDIT* Plus there are runes that literally you can't get access to at the moment on the checklist through trading or anything else. Look at Corry & Blargh the zombie, nobody has them.

Guys I just made a new account on leagues EU server and I have to re-earn EVERYTHING. Clearly this is an oversight because I should be given just as many champs and skins as all those players who have been on it since launch because i'm more important then all of them and my time is precious. This doesn't make me a short sighted, spoiled little ***** but if you disagree with me then you're obviously a greedy collector who cares only about himself.

Why would anyone come to this site, download the game, then purchase boxes of content?

This game/model is trying to do something that just isnt possible.

As goes to show, only a handful of people are custimers.

1. You either buy a game and get acces to all the content, then play online.
2. Or you download a game for free with most content and get into playing it. Then some people go on to make ingame purchases for some additional content, easier acces or visual upgrades.
The percentage of people buying in the second case is around 3%, research shows.

This game is following neither model. It expects me to just randomly start buying things.

DoG have made improvements in accessabilty, but the concept still falls in between the workable models.

 

I think you have a serious problem. You cannot compare pox to lol, they are too much different. Please, read the WHOLE threard, then repost.

 

I have, and I think it gave me cancer. It's mainly boozha and banshee making asses of themselves while allyorbase and malo try to explain why you can't just hand out all the runes like halloween candy. They gave very well reasoned arguments and the responses they got were on par with what I just posted so I thought i'd fight fire with fire and make an argument as ******** as the ones they are trying to spew out in hopes that they'd understand their own logic.
