Rune (prize) Drops

I always liked this idea, and think it would be healthy for the game to see it implemented.

The idea of a "Drop" is a random event (i.e. happens 1-X times every 24 hour period) whereby players currently in a game (IMO it would be PvP rank, but does not have to be) are instantly entered into a contest of which the victor of that current game gets a special award (random high rarity rune, maybe rare + for example).

So at random intervals during the day you would see a message pop up with something like “of those currently in a game, the victor will be award an X”.

The effect of this is twofold: 1) gives a free to play avenue of gaining access to high rarity runes (unlike tournaments, players from a wide skill variety will have a chance at winning as your chance to win is as good as the match-making system (although that is its own problem)), and 2) it encourages consistent playing in order to be “available” to take part in the drop (rather than waiting and doing nothing, or dodging people etc. as who wants to be in the lobby when Snogive is the prize?).

The parameters of this can be tweaked however you want. How often they drop, the chance of different rarities (from runes to token packs to big gold pay-outs), whether or not entry is “instant” etc giving a lot of control to the developers over its actual impact.

What are peoples thoughts on something like this?
