Can we replace the second upgrade path with Reinforcement or Initiative? I don't know why anyone would ever take Regeneration on something that is designed to get close then explode.
@allyorbase suggested swoop, which would be much better than regen, and would keep the broodling from feeling like a fire version of bile zombie.
I was partially joking, but really, I don't think it would break the game (they have 4 SPD and Sacrifice costs 3 AP, anyhow)... Regen 2 and Swoop as the second upgrade line...
If you swoop in, they're either going to attack it, causing the death nova, ignore it, allowing you to sacrifice, or have to disengage before killing it with range, allowing you a little more board control.
Base stats, physical attack, flight, and sacrifice on Broodling is 24 nora. Upgrade path one is Death Nova Fire3/Fire4/Lava3 at 4/6/7. If we got rid of Regen 1/2 at 3/6, and replaced it with Reinforcement1/Reinforcement2/Swoop at 6/10/7, I think broodlings would see more use. Add Short Lived to base and you can have one maxed out for only 16 nora! Sorry, I forgot my sarcasm tags for Short Lived.
The Broodling only has 4 AP, and Swoop is 5 AP to activate. Swoop only moves you ~1 more space than 5 AP would move you, otherwise. Is that really "lulz?" You wouldn't even be able to activate it the first turn the Broodling gains its AP... I admit that I don't play with Broodlings, but I am familiar with them. Maybe not enough?
No one plays broodlings right now. I forgot Swoop required 5 AP. Make it 4, make broodling 5, or put swoop on the upgrade tree with reinforcement or initiative on base, that would allow them to get up to 7 AP upon deployment for a summon and swoop.
