I'm not sure about stats, upgrades and such, but I like the idea of harvesting a vanquished enemy for blood balls. hmmm......spawning a griefbearers fount is kinda op man, considering it has that +1 damage boost......err....making the guy blow up into five blood balls might be better or have a new relic called: Blood crucifix 5hp, bleed dry bleed dry, blood crucifix loses 5 hp and spawns 4 blood balls around it with 5 hp each.
