Did you watch the video? Japan went on about how giant robots were their culture blah blah blah, America beating them would hurt their pride and likely would cause a rematch just like boxers or UFC fighters wanting one.

They have Battle Bots which came back after a decade hiatus, but these both have pilots the US one has 2 I believe.

Potential for injury is it, they're 9000+ lbs of steel if something goes wrong it's probably going to kill the pilot(s).
