One of the most reputable newspapers of Germany, Die Zeit, is currently basically tearing Trump apart completely. And why not, really. His way to deal with the Orlando shooting was at best incredibly disgusting. At best. Anyone voting for Trump clearly hates the US and its ideals.

as I said before, Syrian gov/bashar are not anti-sunni, they are anti-isis. bashar doesn't care if you are sunni, just as long as you don't support isis. his own wife is sunni. does this mean that alawite bashar has to boot sunni Asma? it is all good because even though she is sunni, she is not tainted by isis. they are not booting sunni from Syria. they are just trying to clean Syria from isis influence. from bashar's perspective, as the leader of Syria (baath party), hed actually prefer to keep as many Syrians in Syria as possible to ensure the nation's survivability in the future. a nation with very few people is a weak nation. he doesn't want Syria to turn into a Lebanon situation in which the majority of the Lebanese live outside of Lebanon. he wants to kill isis but keep as many Syrians in Syria as possible without pissing off sunnis or other religious groups (with the exception of ISIS)- this is the hard part. also baath don't fight wars in the name of religion because secularism is a core in the ideology. even though there are shia/alawite/sunnis involved, the ones who are trying to paint this as a holy war are the isis sunni. if the Syrian gov purges a region, it is not because the people in that region were sunni, it is because the people were ISIS. sunnis are welcome to stay, just as long as they don't support isis.

Syrian 1st alawite 2nd
Syrian 1st, shia 2nd
Syrian 1st, sunni 2nd
Syrian 1st, Christian 2nd etc
fighting a war to defend their country against people who are
Isis sunni 1st.

so people who care about a nation vs people who follow a perverted form of sunni.

thanks to those who posted graphs and such, they actually are enlightening.
according to several Syrians I have talked to, foreign influence is the main reason why people are leaving, not bashar/Syriangov/alawite. wars can be repulsive but people are especially attracted to the loose immigration policies of western countries. people KNOW they have a good chance to make it to a more developed western country. they may be broke and ill educated but certainly not deaf. "why should I stay here if I know I can easily make it to Europe, Europe will welcome me with open arms."

refugees are taking advantage of the immigration policies of western countries. it appeals to them. western countries are to be blamed. if one starts or uses a policy, one also has to manage reputation and how that policy is being perceived. they are indirectly attracting people. war can be a reason to leave, but the current immigration policies are especially alluring.

and then turkey is like "hey sunni, come on in, if you want to fight vs Syrian gov, we can resupply you. if you want to enter Europe, we can do that too, we will even help you with papers if need be, no biggie. if you are shia/alawite/Christian, don't bother."

main reason why the majority of immigrants are sunnis is because Turkey does not allow shia/Christians/alawites to enter. turkey is arguably the most popular gateway into Europe. another reason is that Syrian shia/alawites/Christians are relatively more closely connected to nationalism and secularism. so many of them prefer to stay and defend the homeland rather than run.
