I skipped the portable ones but played the trilogy way back. Definitely playing this one this year.

it's definitely an improvement. the characters feel more complex and Kratos has kinda chilled down, which makes him much more likable (although he's still a bit cliched imo)

I did a bit of research and it seems the english translations online just call volume 8 and up Duelist. So if you read online, you'll start reading Yu-Gi-Oh! then after 8 volumes, you start reading Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. It makes me quite angry that the series is split up like that. It wasn't split up like that in Japanese and other languages, only the english one.

It got confusing at Colossi 5. For some reason the sword mislead me twice so I had to go to wiki. I don't regret it though, the barren atmosphere is incredibly immersive and meditative
